A1C and medication

My A1C has been improving slightly through weight loss, diet and exercise. It is now at 6.6
At its highest it was 7 or just under.
I am not taking medication at present. My daily readings are slightly high in the morning at approx. 130 (dawn effect!), but normal the rest of the day at 100 or less.
My GP prescribed 4x500 mg of Metformin daily which I am too hesitant to take.  Any thoughts please?

Typo on "An A1c of 6.6% indicates your estimated average glucose is 146.72 mg/dl, not "but normal the rest of the day at 100 or less."

I omitted the word "daily" by mistake. That sentence should have been, "An A1c of 6.6% indicates your "daily" estimated average glucose is 146.72 mg/dl, not "but normal the rest of the day at 100 or less."

An A1c of 6.6% indicates your estimated average glucose is 146.72 mg/dl, not "but normal the rest of the day at 100 or less."  We can't speak for your doctor as to why he/she made the decision on Metformin. Call your doctor for that answer.

What is your hesitation? Some people do get side effects from Metformin (stomach) but many do not. I took it for a year with good effect and no side effects. You might want to talk with your doctor about your concerns. 130 is high for fasting blood sugar. It's a fairly common progression for Type 2 diabetes to need a bit of help from oral meds after a time. Good for you for doing well on the weight loss, diet and exercise!
