i got the results back and my A1c was normal, it was 5.2..... which was great.  However another test came back abnormal and it indicates i have inflammation within my body.  Where i am not sure??? now i guess its tracking it down, but i guess it is that that is causing the dizziness, tiredness etc....

Plus since cutting down the OJ my sugar levels have dropped dramatically, am just happy i dont have diabetes.

Thanks for all the support and all your time.

Very interesting. My understanding of the OGTT is that you are supposed to test at a couple points before two hours and then at two hours. For some of us, our blood sugar returns to normal after 3 hours. Well, you will see what the A1C and other tests show. I hope you get some answers to how you are feeling soon. No problem with venting; if you log onto the other websites you will get even more support!

Well i got that call from him, he told me that my 2 hour glucose result was 6.7, even though by the time i got to have the blood test done it was more like 3 hours, but he did say he has included the A1c test to my list and it will be sent to my GP, so i will just have to wait and see.  They are testing me for several other things as well, the ususal, thyroid, FBC's, E's etc.....

Thanks so much for the support you have all shown, i am finding this difficult due to the level of illness im feeling and dont really have the support at home, with family etc... so im having to vent all my frustrations on here.  So thank you!!

It used to be you had to wait for results but now you can get a finger-stick on the spot and get your results right then and there.  Personally, I don't think it would be a bad idea to test the younger people, even teenagers as a base test....it might head off a lot of headaches in the future.  I was 50 before I even knew I had diabetes2 and my Hemoglobin A1c was 9!

The A1c has been used for more than 25 years as the major measure of glucose control and to establish targets for diabetes therapy. The findings of a recent large study have confirmed what smaller studies have shown that A1C really does represent an average glucose because we now have a reliable formula to convert A1C into average glucose [eAG = estimated Average Glucose]. Until labs provide patients eAG results use this formula to convert your A1c to eAG.

eAG(mg/dl) = (28.7 x A1c) – 46.7
eAG(mmol/l) = (1.59 × A1C) − 2.59

The consultant was right, and your GP...like many GP's is behind the times. A1C is now considered the correct test to use in making a diagnosis.

Hey, i went and saw my Gp this morning, i asked her for the HBA1c test and she said NO!! she reckons they only do those tests for peps who have been dignosed with diabetes and not for a dignosis.  So she gave me a fasting glucose test and also a test to do two hours after my breakfast.  so like a mock GTT.

But luckly i spoke to a consultant while having my bloods done and he said later today he'll have a look at my results and he may do the hba1c test for me anyway, as he reckons there has been research done to say that can be used to make a dignosis.  So im now waiting with baited breath for his call.....lol

Zoelula, would you mind PMing that info to me as I am struggling with my A1c as well.  It is 8.8 as I type this.  I think my increased dose of metformin is playing havoc with my a-fib and I have to now take coumadin and have to watch those levels as well.  I also take glimiprimide morning and night.  I feel like anything I put in my mouth affects something  :(

Also, if you are diagnosed with Diabetes, please be sure your doctor verifies that you are, in fact, Type 2 and not LADA/1.5. Especially if any of the following are the case for you: You are not overweight or have been losing weight, you have another autoimmune condition such as thyroid or your blood sugar has been on a steady rise recently even though nothing has changed since your diagnosis.

Yes, your numbers you posted on the other thread are tending towards indicating that. I'm glad you have a positive attitude about it. Diabetes is a manageable condition. I'm sending you a couple websites in a private message so you can read more from literally thousands of other diabetics who are living with this condition successfully. Let us know how it goes.

Diabetes is diagnosed with an A1C over 6.5; pre-diabetes with an A1C over 5.7.
