I get all sorts of rebound effects, from exercise, not eating, DP . . .and so does my Type I cousin.  Also get high BS from anxiety.  When I started Victoza I quit Glipizide.  I hate that drug.  Not crazy about Metformin either.I like Victoza cause it stabilizes everything for me and helps me keep my weight down.  I don't have as many highs and lows.  In your case, something appears to be going really bad with your treatment plan.  You may need to step up the meds. as much as I would hate to say it.  Check your doc.  You are really in the danger zone with such a high FBS.

Thanks for your comments

I have bene diagnosed diabetic (type 2) for about 11 years and have been injecting (not insulin) for about 9 months. I have only got into the habit of checking my blood regularly for a month or so.

I take Victoza, Metformin and Gliclazide.

I have a history of binge eating disorder and must admit I don't really look after myself properly all the time. It isn't as bad as it used to be though. The victoza seems to make me feel poorly a lot and I don't really eat meals properly anymore. When I do feel ok, I tend to eat rubbish. But the eating habits don't seem to link into the blood results though and I don't understand them.

The other day I hadnt eaten or drunk anything between the 2 results.

You need to see a doctor about this.

Are you already diagnosed with diabetes?  How is it being managed.  Regardless, if your blood sugars are high there needs to be some changes in how your doctor is managing you.

When you say you "havent eaten anything" does this include no drinking of colored liquids such as tea, coffee, juice, an energy drink, soda/pop and so on? No snacking of any kind from bedtime until after you've tested? Let us know if you did or not. An 18.5 mmol/l [333 mg/dl] is extremely high even for DP.

I assume its morning now,  you have dawn phenomenon  (DP).  you wake up in the morning and your body is getting ready to start the day, you know chasing down wild gazelles.  well we used to, anywise when you wake up your body releases a lot of hormones and your liver does a glucose dump to give you energy so you can get going.  Glucofage helps with liver dumps.

OR

if you go too long without eating your liver will release glucose (your body thinks you must be starving)

try eating some protien and fat before bed peanut butter on a small cracker.
