Help for my dad.

My dad has type ll diabetes, he is 60 yrs old and in the past year his health has gone completly down hill. He can hardly walk, he shakes really bad, his arms and legs jerk. He lost his sight in his left eye and has trouble seeing out of his right eye. He falls alot, he is very weak, and has lost alot of weight, he has no muscle tone. His doctor has him on so many different meds, Im not sure if his meds are causing this. Just a little over a year ago he could see fine, he was driving, fishing, and fixing up his boat, Im not sure why all this is happening and why it happened so fast. I love my dad more than anything, I pray someone can help.

Hi sorry to hear what your dad is going through, is very scaring because my mum had diabetes but she died. And I was young and didn't know much also I was with cerebral palsy (stiffness to the joints-can't walk). I have been weak, tired and sleepy for a while now so I decide to check myself I was told my blood count is10 last year it was 6 I end up in the hospital. my sugar is 145 apparently it was 122 last year and they didn't treat me for it, they never mention it to me. And I did the test fasting, now the doctor is telling that I most likely I have diabetes I took a a fasting glucose test and I'm waiting for the results. But I'm giving a ph. # you can call it's in Trinidad 18682223113 his name is Ronald his products is are very good from all over people uses it and they give good reports, right now my husband is using 1 for high blood pressure. Please call. God bless.--

Thanks for responding. My dad has never really had his diabetes under control, due to lack of trying, but right now he is at a point where he basicly just lays in bed in pain all day, and when he does get up he usually falls so my mom has been helping him out of bed to go to the bathroom. He is really weak. His Dr. has him on Diclofenac 75mg 2 per day, Hydralazine 25mg 3 per day, Lovastatin 40mg 1 tab at bed time, Gabapentin 800mg 4 per day, Carvedilol 12.5mg 2 per day, Omeprazole 20mg 1 per day, Furosemide 80mg 1 per day, Ferrous Sulfate 325mg 1 per day, Quinapril 40mg 1 per day, Hydroco/apap tab 10 mg 6 per day, asprin 81 mg 1 per day, Clonazepam 0.5mg 3 per day.  He doesnt eat much and he has alot of trouble going to the bathroom the other way.

More on drugs: Have you ever heard of anyone getting healthier by taking more drugs? I haven't.

First and foremost your father needs to control and manage his diabetes to prevent diabetes side effects. You don't mention what this is, or what his levels are, so I cannot provide suggestions.

However, I dislike doctors who dispense drugs like candy instead of finding the cause and cure of the health issue/concern. All drugs have side effects, some nastier than others. I wouldn't be surprised that your father is taking medication to counteract the side effects of a previous drug/s. Then it becomes a domino affect as he is Rx'd more drugs. Weeding him off drugs would be a good start.

Perhaps a second medical opinion is in order, someone who is not associated with his current doctor. If you live near a major college university more than likely a teaching hospital is located near or on the campus. This is where medical experts teach AND practice medicine. First have him see an Endocrinologist, a specialist on diabetes and the endocrine system. Then go from there. Good luck
