High insulin dosages

I have been a Type 2 diabetic since 1992.  My mother was also a diabetic but type 1.  In all these years I have never been able to get and keep my blood sugars down to the recommended level.  They are anywhere between 11.0 and 30.0 mmol.  My mother also never got hers under control til the day she died.  I have had a triple by-pass, epilepsy (which is fully control), and sleep apnea which was just diagnoised this year.  I am also on Effexor EX for depression.

Me Endo is now talking about putting me on an insulin pump.  She says she has 2 patients who have switched to the pump and had great success.  Right now I am on Lantus 30 units AM and 40 PM and Humalog three time a day depending on the my carb intake.

Is anyone out there on a pump with type 2 diabetes?

Janet

Hi Janet
I'm sorry to hear you have had trouble getting your diabetes under control. I am relatively recently diagnosed Type 1.5 and on MDI's, but I have heard nothing but positive things from people on pumps, who got their diabetes under control after years of struggling. I suggest you check into two different forums where you will get to meet and chat with many pumpers: TuDiabetes.com and Diabetesforums.com. You will also get much input on diet, weight loss and exercise all of which will help you get stable. Good luck to you.
