Humalog Insulin not helping with really High levels. Help?

So I've had a problem with high blood sugar. I have type 2 diabetes, am overweight, and take a lot of meds on the regular. My blood sugar eventually went from being in the high 200's at max to almost hitting 600! So I finally decided to go on insulin. (yes i know its not a cure-all, but I knew it would help out while I try to get better.) I ended up getting humalog for fast-acting, and another for long lasting. This morning, I woke up with 470 as my number!!! So i took my dose of humalog and waited 45 minutes, checked again, and it was only down to 437. Took a BIGGER DOSE later, like a lot more units (25 I think?) waited 2 hours then checked again. and it went up to 457. Like what the heck??? I haven't had anything bad today, and have been drinking lots of water. What is going on? Am I not waiting long enough? Should I be super worried? I don't want to go back to the doctor because they'll just tell me to up my dose which I did. Any help would be fantastic.

There's no mention of your diet. Take a look at what you're eating and drinking. It's best to test 2 hours after you eat, and taken your medications. I'd suggest adding exercise even a simple 40 minute walk. 20 mins one way and 20 mins return, 2-3 times a week or daily if you choose. Check out meals and recipes for diabetics and add a few to your self-care routine. I'd also suggest asking your Dr if any of your other medications are conflicting with your insulin medications. Never be shy to ask questions. I mentioned in another reply, I use soup, broth, veggies, dribbled egg and small amount of rice to help bring my sugar levels down (usually after eating bad foods) for 2-3 days.

This is a great and helpful post.  Thanks for this. Do you have type 2 diabetes?
Yes, it arrived in my mid 50's. I was told that's good but ... well... I'm thinking, what? really? isn't it better to NOT have it, lol.
Ha ha.  Well, I guess if it can be avoided all the way around, all the better but getting it later and controlling it is 'good'.  We have a nutrition forum I'm the community leader for. I'd LOVE you to come and talk healthful cooking and eating with me!

So, something in your situation makes me uncomfortable.  Is your doctor not directing you how to use the medication? What dose, when to increase, etc? I think that it is in your best interest to do so.  I communicate with my doctor about these things via MyChart messaging.  https://www.healthline.com/health/drugs/humalog#humalog-vs-novolog  Often Humalog is given with other medication along with it.  You may need that approach.

i also haven't been taking it very long. Like i'm supposed to take 7 units per meal and 15 lispro when i sleep. pluss 1000 mg of metformin morning and night. I haven't been consistent with the lispro or humalog, so maybe that would cause it?
I would try to become consistent as yes, that could affect things from my understanding. DO check in with your doctor.
