I have been diagnozed Diabetes 2 last week.

Hi,

Im new to this kind of website, to this disease and every thing related to it. I have a very important question whose answer I am seeking. Please go through the post.

Little History:
In January 2010 and September 2010 I fainted and Docs told me my Sugar level fall down.

Current:
My aunt came to visit us with her BG Monitoring device. I checked mine just for my knowledge and it was 190 after 2 hours of dinner. I kept checking after dinner every day and it came 218, 240, 314 respectively.

Went to see the doc, he took 3 tests. Fasting blood sugar, Urine & Hb1C. The results were 135, no sugar & 8.4 respectively. My current weight is 240 lbs.

My Question:
Doc has straight away given me medicines. But I want to control my High Blood Glucose level by diet and exercise. Any opinions about my medicine vs diet & excercise?

Thanks,
Ali.

Ali,

Little History:
When, what time of day, did you faint?
Fainted before or after a meal?
How did the doctor know you had low blood glucose levels?
Were you taken to a hospital and your blood glucose tested?
Excessive high blood glucose can also cause fainting in some people.

Current:
How do you know your aunt's glucose meter is accurate?
Go purchase your own, be sure to check if it needs calibration before using. Test before meal, then 2 1/2 hours after. This will tell you how the foods you consumed affected your glucose level.

An A1c of 8.4% is very high. It is equivalent to your glucose being 222 mg/dl daily. You want the A1c below 5.4%.

Unless you are a physical athlete or a body building weight lifter, a person standing 6' 4" average weight is 181-207 lbs, 82-94 kg. You?

First and foremost follow doctors orders, take medicine as required, watch what you eat, exercise daily, lose excess weight, and monitor your glucose levels before and after each meal. Do not stop or increase your medication without doctors approval.

Waverider and allmymarbles have provided excellent advice.

The first priority is to reduce your weight to below 200 pounds.

Don't pass go. Don't collect 200 dollars.

You are headed for big trouble. Starts with "T" and ends with "E".

If you are extremely compliant in following a diabetes diet your may escape the use of medications. My sister did, and she did it quickly.
