Increased blood sugar after exercising

I'm a type 2 diabetic, 69 yr old ,man, and for years I have been able to keep my daily blood sugar/A1C well with normal range. This was when I was working - now that I'm retired, and because I became sedentary my A1C rose from 6 to 7.2 and my daily morning readings jumped to average 150 ml.  Now I do daily treadmill walking exercises plus some weight training in the gym and find that after 1.5 hour of exercising my sugar goes up 50-80 points.  The finally abates to normal levels after 5-6 hours.  Can you please tell me why.

You're welcome. I don't believe there is a clear picture that can be applied to everyone - a general ballpark figure - simply because every individual is different in physicality but also their exercise program affects each body in a slightly different manner. Yours elevates 50-80 points while someone else doing the exact amount of reps in the same amount of time might be in 30-40 range. What is important is that you constantly  monitor your glucose and insure your levels normalize in the anticipated amount of time.

Thanks for your input.  I do test at one hour intervals (post exercise) and do notice that levels start to lower at the 2-3 hour mark.  My additional concern is the amount of increase I see.  Reading other articles on this forum I see an increase of 20-40 points.  Mine increase some 50-80 points. My first reading in the morning is between 85-100.  Thanks again.

Strenuous exercise tells the body to release more glucose for energy. Test before and 3 hours after exercising once your body has come to full rest. If you need to eat, eat two-three hours prior to exercising. Do not consume energy bars or sports drinks while working out, only water.
