Ok CbC verified high blood sugars 149 range 70-105 mg/dl and put A1c at 7.4 H range 4.2- 5.8. My Cholesterol was good and she said my thyroid ok. My Blood pressure was 142/93 and so she ordered for me metformin 500 at titrated levels till I am taking full dose in 8 weeks of 2 at breakfast and 2 at dinner. and also lisinopril 10 mgs once a day for blood pressure and to protect kidneys.
Asthma medicine - oral and inhalers - can elevate glucose levels. Oral meds have steroids aka 'corticosteroids' while some inhalers aka 'bronchodilators' contain steroids like epinephrine.
You will find that when you make lifestyle changes - eating proper foods, exercise daily and weight loss - your glucose levels will lower. We have two forum members that can vouch they reversed their diabetes and are back to normal by doing so.
"will try the lotion (though lubiderm did not seem to help)."
Use Cetaphil cream [large jar] not lotion. Cream moisturizes better according to my dermatologist. You might consider posting on the Dermatology forum. I'm sure other Texan's will come along with their suggestions.
Let us know how the doc visit went.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, yes go to doctor today to find out results of CBC, and Lipid Panel so hopefully will know more. Unsure why blood sugars are higher, though I have gained a little weight since then, about 8 lbs. I have been having Asthma issues, so am wondering if that or Hypothyroid issues could be affecting my bs levels. It has been an extremely hot year here in Texas and so my skin is much drier , even my scalp itches, will try the lotion (though lubiderm did not seem to help).
Converting your 7.3% A1c to eAG equates to a daily level of 163 mg/dl, close to what your meter is recording. Your levels are increasing since you first posted last year. Why?
Itchy skin can be caused by high glucose levels [yours not that high to be considered] but most often dry skin is the culprit. One way to tell is if your itch stops a few minutes after applying a good skin lotion/cream moisturizer like Cetaphil. If not, an evaluation by a Dermatologist is in order to rule out fungal infection, or other issues.
Brain fog can be caused by a lot things; menopause, roller coaster glucose levels [highs then lows], depression, nutrient [mineral/s and/or vitamin/s] deficiency, junk foods, liver or kidney issues, cancer, and so on. Hopefully you scheduled a complete checkup to include blood draws - CBC, Lipid Panel, etc. Good luck
Also, be sure to take Metformin with food to lessen the chance of naseau. Look up Metformin and print out the side effects. Not all medication suites everyone. If side effects continue for more than 3 days contact your doctor and ask to be switched to another med. Make sense?
