My blood glucose shows high on my health screening. Should I be overly concerned.

MT7268External User
I just recently had a health screening and after fasting 12 hours my blood glucose was 111. Should i be overly concerned with that? Will they put me on meds or just monitor it. My history of blood glucose levels range over the last 4 years from 94 to the current 111.

Technically, this is indicative of prediabetes. This means that you are possibly on the path to developing type 2 diabetes. I would recommend an A1c test which evaluates your blood glucose over the past several months. This is accomplished by measuring the amount of glucose attached to the oxygen carrying protein hemoglobin carried by red blood cells which typically have a lifespan of 90 days. The practitioner will likely recommend lifestyle modifications such as diet and exercise.
