Plain and simple, fasting glucose measures glucose only at the time of test not for any other time, not the day before, week before or month before. Its possible your fasting may be lower your glucose level to normal or near normal levels. Do you exhibit diabetic symptoms on the day of your FG test? The A1c will provide a better insight. But, are you saying your insurance company will not pay for an A1c if your 3rd FG results are negative? If so, there are OTC HgbA1c home kits. Just Google it.
Thanks for your replies.
Wave: I'm not sure it was you who gave me the info on the HgbA1C. I recall someone else telling me about it. Yes, it's been requested. Labs need a Doctors order for it and my insurance won't pay until I've had three Fasting Blood Glucose Tests with elevated BC. In about a week it will be my third ( provided it's elevated, as my last wasn't ). This is part of my quandary: Why would I be having symptoms of Diabetes yet be able to have an occasionally quite normal BSL? Easy right? My Blood sugar wasn't elevated that day??? Hmm, just makes it all that much harder.
madge: I have been having extensive blood work.
If you think you have diabetes then you should request blood test. Having said that, your symptoms could be other things as well, such as dehydration, especially after exercise. You may need glasses for the headaches at computer, and or not sit there too long. How is your blood pressure? Your symptoms can be something entirely different. Don't try and diagnose yourself or get wannabe doctors in boards tell you what a real physician should be telling you. If you are unhappy with your doctor look for another. Good luck.
I remembered your moniker, "guzzler". Back in March I gave you information on the HgbA1c (HbA1c or A1c) test. Did you take it? Did you not understand what I wrote back then and why this test is important?
If you're uncertain whether your current doctor is listening to you or even cares about your health, go get a second opinion. You have issues that need to be addressed, not ignored.
