Occult blood positive

my mother showed occult blood (urine analysis) of 1+ and my dad showed 3+. what does this mean and is it something serious?

Thanks for the response. Yes my mother has a kidney infection (she is diabetic too). Her creatinine level is 2.9 so i think dialysis might not be needed immediately. My dad went thru a prostate surgery recently so I agree that infection can certainly be the cause. I think I am in slightly panic mode till we show the reports to the doctor for his inputs. Just had to find out any info I could.

"Occult blood" simply means "hidden" blood; blood that is not visible, but is still present. Normally there is no blood in the urine. Blood can indicate an infection, kidney stones, trauma, or bleeding from a bladder or kidney tumor. Did you speak with their doctor?
