I agree about the highest readings often being in the morning. Some diabetics have something called Dawn Phenomenon which raises blood sugar before you eat and as Sally says, we are less able to tolerate carbs in the morning. However 160-180 post prandial is too high. You want to stay under 140 to avoid complications. So yes, I would talk with your doctor.
For many diabetics, the highest reading of the day is in the morning. Your liver produces glucose while you are sleeping. Your readings don't sound like anything out of the ordinary. Mention it to your doctor at your next visit.
Hi,
from what I know, metformin should reach a steady amount in your system (and effect) after a few weeks of taking it.
What is more likely happening is that you are more sensitive to carbohydrates in the morning than later in the day.
The best way to address this would be to eat less carbohydrates at breakfast time (eat protein, fat, and only a little complex carbs), and also take a walk straight after breakfast (or do some other exercise) to help burn the sugars.
Others may add in here.
Best wishes
