It sounds like your doctor knows exactly what he is doing. Just resolve yourself to taking those nasty blood sticks for a while. If you get to eat "standard" meals (the exact same breakfast, for example) -  There need not be one "standard" breakfast or lunch - but the same quantities and the same foods will produce the same results - and know the effect on your blood sugar - you can avoid the constant testing.

Hi,
Your blood sugars were certainly very high.  it is good you went to the dr when you did.  You may wish to ask your Dr if he will test you for type 1 diabetes, which you may possibly have given your age and how high your sugars were.  If it is type 1 diabetes, you will need to continue taking insulin rather than oral meds.

Please learn as much as you can about diabetes.  It is managed through diet, exercise and medications (insulin and/or oral).  You will need to monitor your blood sugar frequently to see how your medications are working too.

however, with good management you can still expect to live a long life.

The best thing you can do control your blood sugars (BG).  You want to keep your BG below 140.

Diabetes is something you have to control, the MDs can guide you but you have the control.
