What else can be done to prevent type II ?

Hello, can you please help me during this scary time.I had a fasting glucose of 101 a year ago. Since then I lost 60 pounds and have a normal BMI. I work out 5 to 6 days a week by running on a treadmill for an hour each time. Is there anything else I can do to not becom ... [More] e a diabetic. My last A1C done 5 months ago was at 5.1. I watch my carbs, eat every 2 hours, make sure I get enough fiber and whole grains and eat my vegetables. Do I need to be testing my blood glucose at this time and monitor it? Lastly, have you heard about fenugreek seeds and if you think that may help? [Less]

It reads to me like you are doing the right things to lower your chances of developing Type II diabetes. Keeping the weight as near normal as possible, exercise and eating healthy are the factors for DMII that you can reduce; heridity is a factor we can't control. Your last A1C was well below the level (6.0) where doctors began to diagnosed boderline DMII, mine was 9.4 when I was diagnosed. Check with your doctor about if, when and how often you should test your blood glucose levels. Be sure and get your annual physical and take care of yourself.
