I don't know what drove you to the emergency room but hope its over with.
The best test to determine whether you are a diabetic or a diabetic candidate (prediabetes) is an A1c (HbA1c or HgbA1c) test. You can read about it here http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003640.htm
A quick summation: New red blood cells live an average of three months. Excess glucose binds to the outer walls of these cells never getting ingested to be used as energy. The A1c will read this. Bottom line, go get a checkup by your PCP.
Thank you for responding. As part of the blood tests I had it show hemoglobin as part of my CBC which was in normal range. Do you know if this is the same as an A1c test?
No its not. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule within a red blood cell that carries oxygen. The test is performed to see if you're anemic. The A1c is specific with measuring blood glucose.

as an rn, we had to check peoples blood sugar 4 x day. per the lab reports the normal range was 60-110. we as nurses never gave the patient insulin unless they were over 120. your blood sugars aer in the norm range. any lower and you would be hypoglycemic. the A1c test is done separetly from your cbc. this test gives the avaerage your blood sugar has been running over the past 2-3 months. if that test was normal than speak with your personal care dr and see if you cant get that label of being "diabetic" out of your medical records. your blood sugar was low in the er so that is why they persued it. if you went in with symptoms of being lightheaded, dizzy etc. then a low blood sugar is prevelant. with the numbers you have printed i highly doubt you are diabetic. remember sugar is not the only thing to avoid. all foods break down into sugars. some simple sugers other not so simple. ie: carbs turn into sugars as do protiens etc.. speak with your doc. i believe they were looking at you as being hypoglycemic.
