Interestingly, my physician also told me not to bother with a meter. I ignored his advice, got one, and began testing myself several times daily. It was the best thing I could have done. It became a competition with myself to see what I'd stick today as compared to yesterday. This really helps me maintain my diet which in turn maintains a desirable blood glucose level.
Without a meter, you're flying blind. You have no idea where you are, where you were, or where you want to be.
yes you should.
If you have diabetes and you don't have a meter you have no idea where your blood sugar is or if what you are doing is helping to control your blood sugars.
Without a meter it is like trying to drive a car in the dark with no headlights.
You should use your meter to monitor your blood sugar and to also see the effect of diet, exercise, and medications (and then use this information to improve your blood sugar control).
Your Dr is doing you no favors by not giving you the tools you need to properly manage your diabetes, which should include the means to monitor your blood sugar / treatment..
