Hi,
If ferritin was normal you likely do not have manifestations of hemochromatosis--LFts should be checked if not already and also you can check for the actual gene. You may still have some effects of the protein deficiency, but I also think you likely have some protein deficiencies from the diet. Best to check in with a good internist to be thorough with everything. It's tough to try to narrow this down on a forum such as this.
Take care and all the best to you.
also as a child I was hypoglycemic. ''
thank you erin
Pt is me, sorry I am a nurse. Hemaglobin 38%, protein in blood 7.4. family hx hemachromatosis my md is not sure if I have this as first result said i was anemic, the second follow up was high, protein was also deficient thrn even though I was on atkins, and very strict. but that was june. diet tapered off in mid june. ferritn is c in normal range.

HI,
There may be several etiologies at play here, including nutrient deficiencies and vitamin deficiencies. Rechecking thyroid tests may be a good idea as well. I am sorry I cannot narrow this down on this forum alone. Please be sure to have this patient seen by a good internists to start and go from there.
Take care
Sorry, my previous comment. This is the medical forum. I thought I was on the other site. Am sure the dr will also answer your question, as well.
Hi,
this is not a medical forum, it is a patient to patient forum.
If you want to confirm there is no subclinical thyroid problems need to test for FT3 and FT4, which are the active thryoid hormones. If these are normal, unlikely to be thyroid related.
Has pt been checked for sleep apnea?
How is pt's diet now? She should take a multivitamin. Take up some regular exercise to help with depression and sleep.
