Barb135 really glad you mentioned this as I have seen relatives struggle for decades with weight coming to find out it was caused by their thyroids. Also too if you have a special condition such as congestive heart failure, your weight can drastically change overnight due to fluid retention.
Another good point that I am personally learning about too is food allergies and fluid retention. When I have something that my body has an intolerance too, I notice more swelling and water retention. Definitely a frustration when you look on the scale.
I think we all have issues with the fluid retention; most often, that's what makes our weight fluctuate so drastically. Reducing salt intake and increasing fluid intake, is the best way to counter this.
For anyone, who suddenly gains (3 pounds in 2 days) and it won't come off within a couple days, you should really think strongly about getting thyroid levels tested; in fact, anyone embarking on a diet should make sure thyroid levels are good before starting; I'm a prime example: Back in 2007, I suddenly gained about 15 lbs when I'd never had a weight problem before. I begged my doctor to do some tests, but he refused; I then started changing my eating habits and joined Curves. In spite of the exercise and diet, I continued to gain and ultimately gained approximately 35 pounds in less than 3 months. Early in 2008, I finally got the nurse practioner at my doctor's office to test thyroid levels; my TSH was skyhigh and actual thyroid levels were either below range or nearly so. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and later with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune thyroid disease. As most of you know, I'm still struggling to lose the pounds.
I just want to express I have had my own frustration this past week with water retention :( How can I gain 3 pounds in 2 days...gotta start looking at my sodium/water intake more.
So since last thursday i think i gained weight over the week end but starting this week i started water aerobics three days mon. wed. and tomorrow..then walking on tuesday and later tonight..so hopefully i'll be less weight next week.
WISH ME L U C K!
Wow congratulations to all of you, this is great news. I agree with the moderation aspect of weight loss, it seems when you lose it slow it stays off. Did anyone do anything different that they think really helped them with their weight loss? Fluid is such a huge frustration indeed.
This weekly weigh in a good reminder to keep on track.
I am at 200.6 which a tad down from the begin wt of 203 :), but
it can go up and down just blinking my eyes, so not really sure what the "real" weight is LOL
Thanks for the encouragement. Someday maybe I'll find a doctor who will listen to me. Literally, the only way I can lose weight is to exercise WAY too much and cut WAY too many calories. You and I both know, that's extreme and you and I both believe in moderation - it is the sensible way to lose weight and keep it off. Moderation is how I lost over 65 pounds starting 5 years ago and how I have kept all but about 10 of it off for 4 years. I am not terribly unhappy with my weight, I just do not want to go up any more plus, with my knee, I WOULD like to take off these 10 again.
I know, some days, I retained a lot fluid, and we all know that causes weight to fluctuate.
I know you've had a lot of trouble with that knee, sometimes not being able to exercise; maybe that has something to do with it. Not to mention that I'm very disappointed that your doctors won't give you a trial dose of thyroid medication.
Whatawoman - congrats on that 1 lb loss....... that's what we're looking for!!
OOPS, forgot tracker, which doesn't matter much....
I stayed the same. Barb, like you, I fluctuated. Once this week, I weighed 156, so I was NOT unhappy to weigh 150 this morning. Of course, one day, I weighed LESS than 150, so go figure. IDK how my weight can fluctuate so much, but it does.
I have company for 3 weeks, so who knows what it's going to do.
1lb off for me - finally :)
