fat on six pack

I've been exercising for long time and i can feel my six pack (when i push my finger on my belly) but it's hidden under a layer of fat. Why? What should i do? Any tips?

CARDIO! doing ab workouts doesn't do anything until you burn that fat layer off. My favorite a cardio is freestyle laps in a pool for 30 min. Running is boring but you want to sweat a lot.
