Hey, was just reading an earlier post made by you and read that you're scheduled colonoscopy was yesterday.  So how did it go?  Did they discover what was causing your symptoms?  In any event, your mind should at least be at ease now.  Take care...

Katey,

At least you got it out of the way.  A sigmoidoscopy is more uncomfortable than a colonoscopy because you are awake.  A sigmoidoscopy also only looks at the beginning part of the colon (about the first 24 inches or so).  Bleeding after a sigmoidoscopy is pretty normal for obvious reasons.  One more thing to reassure you is that if symptoms such as narrow stools, constipation, and bright red blood are indeed caused by a tumor, the tumor is generally found in the first part of the colon.  Tumors further up the colon tend to cause different sypmtoms such as crampy pain, dark stools, anemia, and possible diahrea.  So in other words for the symptoms you originally described, the right test was performed and nothing was found.  On a side note your doctor sounds like he has poor bedside manner to A) tell you he has seen colon cancer in patients at 18...what a nice thing to tell you.  and B) to perform an already uncomfortable test in the manner you described.  Any way keep fighting the anxiety, a wise man once said...wherever you go...there you are. Bye.

DOUG!!!  I also wanted to ask you if its normal to bleed so much after the sigmoidoscopy.  I've been bleeding quite a bit more then i usually do. ITs actually on the toilet paper, and its only been since the scope.  I'm goign to guess that its normal and i'm just being the hypochondriact that i am, but i thought i would ask anyway. Come on.  You know i had to ask. :-)

Doug............ that was the most UNCOMFORTABLE procedure taht i've ever had done!! it was bad!! i was having anxiety attacks the whole time and the doc was yelling at me and i ripped the scope out of my own butt!!  He didn't find anything though, through all my hypochondria.  I'm thinking about getting the colonoscopy done, because the doc told me that he only looked up about 40 centimeters.  The girl at the top that wrote "if you're writing on here thinking you have colon cancer" described the exact same symptoms that i'm having, and hers turned out to be internal hemmoroids.  No internal hemmoriods showed up in the colonoscopy.  HE WAS THE MEANEST DOCTOR IN THE WORLD!! lol, thats alright.  At least i don't have to see him ever again.

no, i didn't end up having the colonoscopy.  Instead, today i had to take all the nice "prep" (i think i tore myself another hole:-D)  and i'm having the sig scope tomorrow.  I'm NERVOUS cause i've been having all these reassuring flat stools, and my doc told me he's found cancer in 18 year olds.  Gonna be into my benzo's again tomorrow!  :-)
