Blood, Mucus, Gas, Cramping

ekd
I started passing quite a bit of blood and mucus last Thursday.  I went to the emergency room the next day.  They examined me physically, drew blood, took x-rays, and gave me an IV of something to strengthen my blood.  Everything came back good.  No hemmorroids were detected.  Doctor did see the blood.  I was given a 3 day supply of Cipro 500mg to take and I had to bring in 3 stool samples which I haven't heard anything on.  The Cipro felt like it was tearing up my insides and I continued to pass even more blood along with suffering with the cramping each time.  I can't seem to eat anything with onion, garlic, or bell pepper.  It gives me severe cramping and all I pass is blood all day/night long.  I put myself on a bland diet and for the last 2 days I seem to be doing better.  I'm still passing blood & mucus along with cramping, just not as much but I constantly feel like I have to have a movement. I am not scheduled to go back to this public hospital for a scope until Feb. 5th. I don't have insurance so I have to go there.  Does anyone else have/had these same symptoms?  Any replys are greatly appreciated.

Those are all telltale signs of ulcerative colitis (or was it Crohn's?  I get those two mixed up...)

I got my results back today on the stool sample and there was fecal leukocytes present. :(  I'm scared to death.  They are doing a sigmoidocopy on Thursday and then if they still need to they will do the colonoscopy on the 30th.  My dr called today and said I could just wait till the 30th to have the entire colon done (that is as soon as they can do it) but I requested the sigmoid because I want to know something NOW!  I've been a basket case all day... worrying and thinking the worst.  I hope you post again after your test on Wed.  I will be praying for the both of us.

ps: still having loose, yellowish stools today but no sign of blood.  I take the Lonox tablet and that seems to reduce the urgency to only go once a day. I still have the dull ache on my left side but no actual cramping when I need to go to the bathroom.  My nerves are keeping me from eating and I have lost 5 pounds since last week.

WOW- our symptoms seem almost exact.  I'm 29/f and had to go to the ER on Wed. 01/15 because of bloody diarrhea.  I woke up on Tuesday night with severe abdominal cramping/diarrhea.  I just thought I'd caught a bug that was going around so I took some Immodium and felt better.  Got up on Wed. morning with no signs of sickness, ate breakfast, drank  coffee and felt fine.  Then it hit me again around 11:00 but this time the diarrhea was bloody.  Let me rephrase... there was nothing there but bloody mucous.  It was so bad I thought I had started my period.  I went to the ER and they did a rectal exam and took some blood.  My white blood cell count was in the 12,000 range and they thought (after the rectal exam) that I could possibly have an internal hemmorhoid. (sorry for spelling)  The doc prescribed me CIPRO 500 mg also and I have been taking it twice a day since Wed. evening.  I have had loose stools yesterday and today but no sign of blood.  And I have this dull ache in my lower left side.  I have to go Thurs. to have a colonoscopy done.  I'm terrified.  Not of the procedure but of what their findings may be.  I'm trying so hard to be positive and not think the worst... but it is hard. I've been pretty healthy up until just a few days ago.  Other than cathing a cold every now and then I never get sick.  My bowels are pretty regular.  About every day or at least every other day.  I never have diarrhea unless I catch a bug.  I've been researching colitis and chrons' disease and I do have some of the symptoms.  One more thing... they took a stool sample and hopefully I will get the results tomorrow.(Monday 01/20)   I've been researching that route and found if there is fecal leukocytes present in the stool then it could possibly be ulcerative colitis.  Please let me know how things turn out for you.  I will keep you in my prayers, also.

Thank you for your response.  I barely ate anything yesterday, and I feel much better today.  I called the hospital for my stool sample results and they changed my Feb. 5th appt. to this coming Wed., Jan. 22nd, and I will find out the results then.  Let me see what happens on Wed.  I don't have medical insurance so I'm kind of limited on where I can go for care.  I am going to read up on the Candida diet, though.  I sure hope your child starts feeling better soon.  Those cramps are miserable.  I used to be constipated a lot but could always remedy it with a stool sofener.  I found the "Colon Clenz" worked best without any cramping.  (I did tell the doctor I was using it a couple of times a week.)  You might ask your doctor about using it on your daughter.  They are sold in the health/vitamin stores and over the internet.  Good Luck to you both.

Many of things cause blood in stools, stomach ulcers, liver cirrhosis, GERD-Gastrorelux disease and more.  The next step would be an endoscopy.  You might want to go on a candida diet.  I recommend that if the GI doctor doesn't help you to find a good doctor.  Call the Great Smokies Diagnostic Lab and ask them for a good GI doctor in your area.  Their web-site is www.gsdl.com.  They do very specific testing there that is not done at other labs.  I got my daughter diagnosed this way.  She had severe constipation, loss of weight, bloating, abdominal pain, dry hair, low grade acne, and she was loaded with toxins.  I had a colonic done because she failed to have bowel movements even with a fleet.  He said that she was loaded with toxins.  I had a colonscopy done, endoscopy, ultrasound, x-ray, and gastric emptying test. I'm forgetting one x-ray test.  I can't think of the name of it.  The only positive results were; delayed gastric emptying (gastroparesis), some imflammation was seen in the colonoscopy, and she has a positive gliadin antibody 75.  She was soooo sick and none of the doctors were helping her.  They gave her Miralax, mineral oil, and senokot for the constipation.  She still failed to have bowel movements.  I called GSDL and they gave me a Naturopathic doctor.  That's when we did the stool evaluation test and that's when we found out she has dysbiosis and klebsiella pneumoniae infection.  She is getting better slowly.  She also didn't have any of the food bacteria in her.  See what the GI doctor comes up with and keep searching yourself for answers.  You can type your symptoms in the search box and read all of the links that come up.
Good luck,  Let us know what happens
The stool analyst test will check for parasites too.

I can say from experience that I have had many of your symptoms.  I lost a total of 30 lbs in 2 months. Nobody could figure it out. I became very dizzy and weak.  Looking back now I know it was from the loss of weight.  I wish someone would have recommended a Hida scan back then because I lived with it for almost 2 years.  It was odd because the pain was sometimes on the left but mostly in my URQ. After my surgery I found out I had a badly diseased gallbladder which didn't show up on Ultrasound. I am still having pain but it is mostly below my sternum, and the surgeon thinks I may have developed ulcers since the surgery. I am having a gastroscopy on Monday. You might also want to have your lipase and amylase levels checked.  If it is your pancreas a cat scan might be in order.

Hello. My comment may not be appropriate here, but I can't figure out how to post a new question. So if anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it. For the past 2 1/2 months, I've had severe nausea, SEVERE stomach pain (in the middle, sometimes to the left--ALL DAY LONG--like a stabbing pain that lasts and lasts---and occassional "attacks" where the pain goes straight through to my back and shoulder blades that last for several hours), diahrreah, constipation, and regular stools, followed by more constipation, diahrreah, etc. EXTREME weight loss---35+ pounds in 8 weeks and still losing. Loss of appetite..though recently I'm able to eat once per day (bland food like chicken, rice, bananas). I'm taking a vitamin supplement because I'm worried that I'm malnourished. I have HORRIBLE dizzy spells, dreadfully tired and weak. I've had a colonoscopy, and also the one where they look into your stomach --a haital hernia was discovered--colonoscopy came back normal. Xrays, Sonogram, and Upper GI appeared normal. Also I've had a constant low grade fever and I have had the flu 6 times in 2 months. I'll go a day or two without the achiness, but it usually returns shortly. Dr. put me on Citrucel which made the symptoms worse. Made me feel more bloated, etc. I only took it for a week. I was on Nexium for about 2 weeks at the beginning of my illness but it didn't seem to help so they told me to stop taking it. I am off all meds. My symptoms are worsening. Continued loss of appetite. Even when I eat I still lose weight. Diahrrea comes and goes, and I am having more solid stools which is good. I feel bloated all the time. I have a lot of gas and burp a LOT. I can taste food that I ate 5 hours before.  The stomach pain is unbearable and I'm unable to focus at work. I'm going to lose my job if I can't get this fixed. On top of everything I have a very stressful job. I don't think this is psychological--I know stress can cause problems, but not like this..and not so sudden...right? I go back to the GI doc next week. Any suggestions on what I should do next? He just doesn't seem in a hurry to find out what is wrong. Slapped an IBS diagnosis on me last month..and now the pain is worse. I'm a female in her early 30s.HELP!! Thanks!!!
