Blood and anallpain

After going to the ER, I was told there was blood in both my stool and in the tolet after a bowl movement. This has happened twice in the past week. Other days, everything looked normal in color and texture. I had pain in lower area of bowel when passing a movement and blood( about 3-4 teaspoons) in tolet that seemed to follow. Family history of Polyps. Medicines now on, ClartinD, Zoloft 50mg, and Flovent for Asthma. Was dia. with a Fissure about 10 years ago. Have had very little trouble since then, until now. Once I passed my bowel movement last night it look normal,no blood seem, but anal was sore and felt as if an acidity burn was there. Put a warm washcloth onit and it reduced the burning. My main concern is I can't get in to see a Specialist until Nov. 26. Very concerned this could be serious and waiting could make a difference in the outcome. Do you feel this is more likely to be okay if I wait a month or does it sound serious enough to go to ER and insist on seeing someone now?

Thank you for taking out the time to answer this question. It may make a difference in my health outcome also. Thank You!!

Cindy

I am suffering from severe bleeding with my bowel movements.  There is terrible pain in my lower stomach.  I've had tests taken.  Still waiting for results.  The hospital sent me home.  If I eat anything, I immediatley have to go to the bathroom.  There is lots of blood.  I've been waiting for results for over a week.  I've lost ten pounds.  I am very weak.  I am very worried.  I also have high blood pressure.  I was prescribed a drug called novo-hylazin tabs 50mg.  The doctors said this could have caused my problem but they don't know until the results come back.  Hopefully soon.

Im 25 and I've been suffering from hemorroids since 2 years ago. Maybe my big mistake was not going to the doctor when the problema was beginning but I was so scared for the blood , even at my age, I was ashamed. A month ago I wen to to se a gastroenterologist and after some examinations, the diagnosis was internal hemorroids, buy didn't need any surgery.
The problem now is that the blood and cutting pain has came back and Im scared , if I continue like this, I may need a surgery. I'd like if somebody knows about the types of treatments for internal hemmorroid, please post back any suggestion.
And for the person of 17 with blood in the stool, forget the odds and see a doctor, you may have a fissure or a little hemorroid, thats is nothing and dont let the problem go far ahead, cause it will worsen.
Thanks and greetings from Peru.

I am 17 and am finding blood in the water and on the tissue- this scares me! And of course, I'm not going to ask anyone about this- at 17 its kinda odd.  But I am nonetheless still very concerned.  Theres not all that much pain, just the blood.  Would anyone be able to post back here with an idea or suggestion of the problem and what I could do to fix it?
Thanks

Hi. I've been too embarrassed to go see the doctor, I was hoping that somebody could help me out on this. I think I might have hemmoroid(s). There's been no blood in my stool, but there has been on the tissue after a bowel movement. The area is very tender and gets itchy and irratated and burns like *** if i get urine on it. I've noticed that there's a couple of "veins" that look somewhat swollen. Is this hemmoroids? If so, is there a way i can treat it at home without having to go to a doctor.
ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. thanks.

I think you should all get a second opinion before you all freak out.  Not all doctors are the same.

Hello,
Right now I have a bad case of the flu.  I am also taking erythromycin for post-operative dental surgery.  This morning I had a rather large bowel movemnet.  There was bright red mucousy blood in three areas.  I have had hemmoriods. Sometimes I do get anal pain.  I had it yesterday.  Has anyone ever heard of the antibiotic I am taking causing blood on top of the stool.  The blood was on top not inthe stool. It was not a large amount but I am really scared about this.  I have had hiatial hernis, reflux and an irritable gallbladder for many years.  have had every kind of test done.  This is the first time I have experienced blood like this.  I am 36.

I am  a 45 year old male. Last May I was diagnosed as having proctitis. A sigmoidoscopy was done and biopsy taken. Results were that it was not bacterial or viral. The only other cause is allergic reaction or "I don't know" as the doctor calls it. I was put on Rowasa enema's daily for 4 weeks, then every other day for 2 weeks then every third day for 2 weeks. At the end I was still passing blood but not as much. I stopped the enema's for 3 weeks then the doctor did another sigmoidoscopy and found the lower intestine had improved greatly but was slightly inflamed and had me continue the Rowasa enema's. My bleeding and mucus have slowed considerably but now I have intense pain in my intestinal area which causes an enourmous amount of gas. I have tried diet changes for weeks at a time and nothing helps. Over the counter treatments for gas offer no relief. Other than the pain and embarassment of gritting my teeth from the pain and then passing the gas," while trying to control the noise" not to mention the odor, I am healthy while the proctitis is healing. Any suggestions????

Does anyone else know what other causes there are for Iron Deficiency Anemia? My Mother has been diagnosed, yet there is no blood present in her stools, she is Post Menopause, so there is no Menstruation.
Is she simply not absorbing her Iron she is consuming?
Is there any condition that would hinder her body from absorbing the Iron?
Like maybe a deficiency in another Vitamin or Mineral, or maybe a particular Disease?
Any advice would be wonderful. She's not completely Lethargic, but getting around doing Housework she becomes tired easy.
I'd really like to help her out, if someone has advice, please let me know.
I've tried Iron Pill Supplements, but they make her nauseous and she usually vomits them. So it's up to Actual Food, it seems, but I want to know what other causes would be for Anemia.
She had it as a child many decades ago and responded best to IV shots of Iron, even then she would throw up the pills.
Please Email me (anyone) if any advice.
Thanks much.

I am having the same problem--large amount of bleeding each time I have a bowel movement.  I assume it is Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Crohn's Disease, although I haven't been seen for any diagnosis.  Dr.s don't seem too worried since I am 29.  They told me they can see me in Feb.  So even though the toilet is filling up with blood, no one seems to care.  Great, isn't it?

I am having a large loss of blood when I have a bowel movement and I know my hemmroids are part of the reason.  I am concerned though at the large amount of blood that I am losing. The water is blood red, not just light red with swirls of darker red.  I feel weak when I have this happen and my face is pale for awhile.I have a cutting pain when I have a bowel movment and I assume that is a irritation of the hemmoroids.  I am concerned about the blood loss especially since my period will be starting soon and it is extremely heavy with large blood clots.  I have no insurance due to health problems they won't cover me. I make over the amount that you can make and get medical assitance. But not enough to pay for medical bills. I don't know what to do.  Is this something I can take care of at home?
Thanks for taking up your time.  God Bless.   Jessica

Sonia, I had a problem with iron def. Anemia for years. I took iron pills the works. Maternity Vit. even though I was not pregnant. Then I went to my GYN and was found to have 3 rather large benign fibroid tumors. I had them removed three years ago and I have been fine ever since. My blood count went up and have been up ever since. I wish it would have been corrected years before. I would like to know how it goes for you. Please post a follow up. Your iron count will still deplete itself as long as you are having monthly cycles. One of the things they did for me after taking vitamins was to try and stop my menstrual cycles.

I have never heard of the problem your having, maybe someone else out there has. Did you call and tell your doctor about feeling so tired? I would do that right away and see what they say. I was a Anemic as a child, but the Iron pills I took worked just fine with me. When I was test a few weeks ago, my blood looked great.  Do you like Spinach ? I eat both Spinach and sometimes Calfs Liver fried with onions and flour for extra iron before my menistral cycle for extra engery. It works great!

I would call my doctor, just in case they is something that was missed in the hospital. I'm sure the doctor can help you with the engery if you call.

GOOD LUCK

Cindy

At the end of September I was hospitalized for gastro-entinitis in italy.  I was treated with the proper proceedures and care.  I have yet to fully recover for certain foods I try severly upseet my intestine area.  Since then, and upon returning back to North America, I have been diagnosed with Iron Deficient Anemia with my iron stores to be increadibly low.  The level was at 5 and my hemaglobin at 113.  I've been taking iron supplements for two and a half weeks however I am finding that I am getting more and more tired as the days go by.  Is there anything that I can be doing or is this a sign that the supplements are not working and if so what should my next step be.  Could this be caused by malabsorption in the stomach?

This is Cindy again and for anyone reading this I want you to not get too worried at first if a glove stool sample says you have blood in stool. I was told this at the ER and have been very concerned and worried, also my family and friends. I finally decieded to have it done again but I just had doubt it was done correctly. I was right... The Cancer center at our Hospital re-tested me (twice) and both ends of stool and said I had NO BLOOD FOUND IN MY STOOL. They believe , by what I have told them it sounds like a Hemorroid. I have worried myself to death after the doctor at the ER said I may have cancer. Only because he thought I had blood in the stool. So... please get tested again and not right after passing the blood. I felt he must of rubbed again my colon wall and pick up some blood from a fissure or Hemorriod which inturn maid my test results in ER Postive. Thank goodness he was wronge.

Dear Cindy,
One of the most recognized symptoms of colon cancer is blood in the stool.  Fortunately, most people with blood in the stool do not have colon cancer or colon polyps.  In fact, benign conditions such as hemarrhoidal bleeding, fissures etc are the cause of the symptom.

The diagnostic approach is determined by several features.  Your age influences the diagnostic approach.  Young people are less likely to have cancer.Your family history of colon polyps does increase your chances of havong a polyp.  The history of the blood being separate from th estool is more suggestive of a anal/rectal problem such as hemarrhoids.

I suggest that you arrange an appoinment with you rdoctor.  After an appropriate history and physical exa, ination, he can outline the best approach for your problem.  I do not think that waiting to Nov 26 will increase your risk of any problem, although if you are anxious talk to the doctor's staff to see if you can get an earlier appoinment.

Please don't let the fact you don't have insurance stop you. Try the Local Health Dept. or call Social Services and ask for advice if you need to. The main thing you have in your favor is your age, 22yr. Cancer is rare in someone your age, not impossible, but rare. I want to know what the doctor tells you. You may e-mail me at ***@**** and keep me informed. Good luck to both of us, your systems sound alot like mine. Also have they done a stool culture? I take it they did and found some blood in stool, right?

Joshua,

Your symptoms sounds alot like mine. I'm not sure about the mucus because I really don't know what to look for. Does it have a color to it? Since your only 21 I won't worry too much about cancer. Age has alot to do with it, and at your age the odds are in your favor, but I would go to a Specialist and still have it checked out. I want to know what the results are of your visit. You may e-mail me and tell me if you wish. I will also let you know anything I find out. My address is ***@****

Good luck to both of us!

Hello,

I'll e-mail you about my results on or a few days after November 10th.Well,they took a stool sample, and they said the results were negative for blood.I don't know what to think of it,because those tests are reportedly only 25% accurate, and sometimes a tumor(s)don't bleed.Hence, you get a negative result.I'm just frustrated that people in this nation have to wait until they're possibly dead to get results, you know?I mean,my stomach's had sharp pains from painful gas since early this afternoon(which is said to be a sign of colon cancer),and it's ever the more frustrating. The doctor at the walk-in clinic last Friday afternoon said my pains were coming from peptic ulcers, and he gave me some pills. This is scary to me.The test day looms in my mind daily.I can't even think right.Well,if you'd like to e-mail me,my e-mail address is ***@****,or ***@**** to hear from you.
