I have a 5 month old breastfed daughter. Approximately 2 months ago we saw a few flecks of what looked like blood (bright red) mixed in with her stool. It stopped, but then about 2 weeks ago, we noticed some more small streaks of red blood in a few stools. After this, she had one stool that had a very large amount of bright red blood mixed into it. She is in no pain, her abdomen feels normal, her blood (CBC) is normal, and x-rays (normal and barium enema) are normal. She does not have fissures. She has not been constipated and her stools are the normal consistency for a breastfed baby. She's had small amounts of blood occasionally since then. Today they tried to do a scan for Meckel's diverticulum, but they couldn't get an IV into her. What are the likely possibilities for the bleeding? The blood we've noticed has been bright red, but we've also sometimes noticed areas of darker brown mucusy looking areas mixed into her regular mustardy stools. Thank you very much.
