Chronic liver inflammation

I have been suffering from the following symptoms for the past 8 years after contracting Epstein Barr virus and, a few months later, being exposed to a toxic overload. Back then, a liver function test showed raised enzyme levels. Since then, however, liver function tests have been normal although my symptoms have continued to worsen.

The symptoms I associate with bouts of liver inflammation:

Hi:

I had this also. It's gone now. With all due respect to western medicine, my cure came with a liver cleanse. I have never followed homopatheic medicine, never took herbs, and never took vitamins. I thought they were a huge waste of time, and possibly dangerous. I was very skeptical of anyone who discussed this stuff. Then came my gallbladder attack.

Two ultrasounds later, there are no stones, but a fatty liver. My doctor had me scheduled for an MRI, which also showed nothing except a cyst on my liver. I was in such pain, my stomach was bloated, and I felt toxic all the time. I'm 50, and I thought that I was pretty much done with my life. I even, stupidly, took a pregnancy test because those flutters felt like when I was pregnant! My husband thought I was crazy, but was damn nervous during that test...of course it was negative.

Then my friend, who is an OB/GYN, and into holistic medicine turned me onto Dr. Hulda Clarks site. I took the liver cleanse there, and amazingly enough, I improved immediately! I lost over 500 stones on my first try, 1000 stones on my second....it's absolutely amazing! I feel 25 years old. And to top that off I decided to do a parsite cleanse, and when I did that, the fluttering totally stopped. I got that from DrNatura for a product called Colonix. There is no bad feedback anywhere for this product, and it has done wonders for me. I have lost 45 pounds, my blood pressure is way down, and I no longer feel like my stomach is an alien being attached to me.

Now, I know all of you are on a traditional medical website, and I completely understand if you feel relunctant to look into this, but just do a little research. I'm so glad I did. My life is so much better, and I didn't have to lose my gallbladder to do it.

Good luck to all of you.

Ann

Hi - I am a 220 pound 31 year old male. I've had ALT levels of around 150 ever since I started taking statins to reduce cholesterol in 2001 (levels were normal before). I stopped taking them after the first livertest indicated high values (that was after 3 months), but they have not come down since. After diagnosis of NASH by biopsy, my hepatologist suggested that taking lipitor was safe even with high ALT levels and might reduce fat content in the liver. After one week on lipitor, my ALT spiked to 250. Is there anything I can do to reduce it again? The loss of energy is impacting my life. I do not drink alcohol and excercise regularly.

Also - is there any explanation for which mechanism would increase ALT permanently in response to statins? Or is this likely to be just coincidence?

You should really post this as a new question so you'll get more responses. The reason you need to see a rheumatologist is because of you ANA, and the mention of autoimmune problems. This is indicative of conditions such as Lupus and Scleroderma, as well as other autoimmune diseases. This means that your immune system is attacking healthy body tissues. Follow your Dr.'s advice, and get in right away. I'm not trying to scare you, but the sooner you diagnose and treat an autoimmune condition, the better yur future will be. There are drugs that can slow and for some, nearly stop the progress of these diseases.

can anyone out there help me. Started itching back in october,no rash visible, november an ultrasound was recommended
possible hemagioma seen, ct scan ordered immiediatly, found 3
liver lesions, 2 benign ( per the radiologist) one probably a
hemagioma, cysts on my left kidney and a cyst in the iliac bone
both benign per the radiologist ( no biopsy as of yet) blood work has been ongoing since October 19, lots of positives, Abnormal blood chemistry ,Anti-bodies and autoimmune are fighting my own defenses whatever that means.
ANA Qualitative at 169, EBV 200, 132 (seen an Infectious doctor
on the 24 of january, negative for mono) but positive for having the Epstien Barr Virus WSR elevated, Bun/creatine elevated, LFT's, elevated, I have an HMO, was told on the 12 of January I was being referred to an Rheumatoid doctor who specializes in the muscles, bones and tissues, and a gastrointerologist for the benign liver lesions or cysts that was found on the ultrasound and the ct scan.  No appointments
were available until 6 weeks which will be on the 27th and 28 of this February before I  can see these specialists.  Why a
arthritis doctor, I don't have aches, I have some pain in my legs and I am somewhat swollen on the right side of my stomach
below my breast area, does anyone else have my symptoms? Help!!!

The negative liver ultrasound would make the major liver and gallbladder diseases less likely.

Further imaging studies can be considered.  This can include a CT scan of the liver.  If there is evidence of an elevated bilirubin level (in connection with light/clay-colored stools), an MRCP can be considered to evaluate the biliary tree.

If the enzymes continue to be markedly elevated (i.e. 3x the upper limit of normal), a liver biopsy can be considered for a more definitive diagnosis.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Thanks so much to both of you for your quick and supportive responses. It was good to be reminded that I should have mentioned that I'm clear of Hep A, B, or C (but my partner has it, so I know all about it and can sympathise greatly with what you must be going through). And I do eat primarily in accordance with Dr Cabot's diet. Thanks again :):).

Hi, might I recommend The Liver Cleansing Diet by Sandra Cabot? She specializes in this area. Also, she advocates as well as myself: juicing! This is essential in liver health!!!

Thanks for that. I looked up the HIDA and it sounds ideal. I'm yet to find a medical imaging clinic anywhere near where I live which performs this test. But, I'm sure it would be available in major cities (I live in Australia) and I'm prepared to go anywhere!!!! Thanks again. It really sounds like it will be helpful. I'd be interested to know about your test results.

Have you been tested for Hep A, B and C? Your symtoms sound similar to mine and I eventually found out I had contracted Hep C during a surgery. THe docs misdiagnosed me for several years, most if not all of your symptoms can be caused by Hep C.
I'd get tested and rule all Heps out.
good luck to you.

You should request a HIDA-Scan. This is what my Dr. referred to as "plan B" when my abdominal ultrasound came back normal. I just had it done Friday, and don't have the results yet. It is a 1 1/2 - 2 hour test, but is painless. They can see the functional capability of your biliary system this way. Look it up.
