H. Pylori and Ulcers

I went for my Endoscopy yesterday.  The reason for the procudure to to see if my Nissen Funduplication wrap had come loose.  The good news is the wrap is still in tact and working properly.  However, the reason why I've been having such stomach pains is because I have many ulcers in my stomach.  The GI doctor thinks this is because of H. Pylori.  He did a biopsy and we will know the results next week.  Has anyone else experienced this and if so, I would like to read your inputs.  All I can definitely say is my stomach really hurts whether I eat or not.  And it isn't any fun.  I'm on Carafate before every meal and at bedtime and 2 Nexium twice a day.  Stay tuned for an update.

If your understanding about using Carafate and Nexium at the same time is true, perhaps that is why my stomach is hurting worse than before I started the Carafate.  I will give it a couple more days and will definitely contact my GI doctor on Friday if things are not much better.  Thanks for your comments.  Have a GREAT day!

I found out I had h. pylori last spring and was treated twice for it. My latest endoscopy done about 5 weeks ago resulted in the h. pylori being eradicated. While I was on different meds the second time I can tell you that I felt terrible!!!! Having said that I'm still having stomach problems. It may be that my stomach is still tender and needs more time to recover.

Best of luck to you,
Abbey

I had ulcers but my biopsy and blood tests for HP were negative. Strange because I don't take anti-inflammatory drugs either...

Had the HP treatment anyway and it was not so bad, had nausea on the first couple of days but then I was fine. The HP treatment made no difference and in the end I controlled the symptoms with Nexium alone. The worse of the pain went within a few days of using PPI's but it took a few months for complete relief. If I stop taking Nexium or reduce the dose the pain starts to return within a few days.

I do wonder whether the HP/ulcer link is nothing but hype...

I was under the impression that carafate will not work properly if used at the same time as acid blockers like Nexium?
