High Grade Cell Dysplasia

I recently had a colonoscopy, which revealed tubulovillous adenoma, 1 CM, with focal high grade cell dysplasia.  The doctor removed the polyp, with a diagnosis appearing to be free of dysplasia.

Frankly, I am from the Boston area and now reside in Florida.  I have a LOT more confidence in a Boston doctor's opinion.  I am 54 years old, smoke and drink occasionally.

The doctor suggests I have another colonoscopy in 6 months.  Do you think there is any reason for me to seek a second opinion.  I have a number of friends who have had pre-cancerous cells.  All but one have had further testing done with ensuing surgery.

Thank you.

I have a copy of the report.  Diagnosis "polyp, sigmoid colon, snare polypectomy: tubulovillous adenoma, 1 CM, with focal high grade dysplasia.  Base of polyp appears to be free of dysplasia.  Negative for malignancy."

The procedural notes say everything normal until the sigmoid colon, where a 9 mm pedunculated polyp was found and removed with a ot snare.

I cannot comment further without seeing the colonoscopy report.

The indication for surgery will depend on the size, location and number of polyps.

If the polyp has been completely removed, a 6 month colonoscopy is reasonable.  I always would recommend another opinion if there is concern or question about the diagnosis.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
