Learning to live with a hiatal hernia

a couple of months ago i was diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia and gastritous. There seems to be very little left in my diet that is enjoyable... I am doing my best to stay away from chocolate (the worst to give up for me) and the rest is trial and error for me. I have suddenly not been able to drink milk, but it doesn't cause the same distress as lactose intolerance people get. I know one of my big problems with my diet is I do not care for fruits and vegetables.. I like apple sauce, salsa things like that, but not the actual apple, tomato slice etc. So i do get some veggies/fiber although limited. How long does it take for this to calm down so i can have something once a week or so without getting sick?  I'm just so frustrated. I started out taking previcid 30mg bid, and zantac & gas-x over the counter as needed (alot). Now i am trying prilosec 20mg and pepcid 20mg bid.  I've lost about 10 lbs since march because of the discomfort and just not wanting to eat.  My gall bladder has not been tested..i think i am going to ask for that next.

thanks for reading :)

Hi, all, I have been living for the past 4 months, with Hiatal Hiernia, Gastritous, and my gallbladder needs to come out, and in the past 4 months I have not been able to eat much of anything, only soft foods like yogurt, soup, and shakes, There only solution so far is to give me Reglan and to have my gallbladder taken out. Can having your gallbladder stay in result in major gastritous, where you can't eat? If there is anyone who has had this condition or close to it, I would like to hear from them.! thanks. micki

Make sure to get your Gall Bladder checked (Ultrasound).  I had Gall-Stones also...Similiar symptoms....I also have a small Hiatal Hernia as well as Gastritis and GERDS (mild right now).  I already had my gall-bladder taken out a few months ago......What a relief!  I take a newer drug called Protonix for the GERDS....Miracle drug in my opinion.
Good luck!!  Michelle
