Small white specs in stool....

Does anyone know what this could be?  For the last couple of weeks, I have periodically been seeing small white to cream colored specs in my stool.  They remind me of the tiny beads of medicine you would find inside a capsule if you were to open it.  (About the size of a pin-head.. maybe a bit bigger.)  They are spaced out what looks to be fairly evenly throughout the stool (though I have not examed the inside), and are semi-firm, almost like a hard wax all the way through.  I first noticed them after I had an ear infection and was taking erthyromicin capsules.  However, I am no longer taking any antibiotics and still see them periodically.  I have had mucus in the stool for a long time, but I have many food intolerances, however, recently, I have noticed a narrowing of the stool.  On one day, the stool generally starts out at a normal width, but end in a narrowing, squared, thin form, on another day, it could be fairly "normal", and another day, marble size balls that are fairly compact.  There is no history of colon cancer in my family...  Could the white specs be parasites? There doesn't seem to be any correlation to the food I am eating (i.e. sesame seeds).  I do know what tapeworm segments look like (similar to rice) and that doesn't fit the description of the pin-head sized balls that I am having.  Any answers would be greatly appreciated... Thanks.

I think I have the answer to your problems.

I would love to talk to any of you through e-mail. My address is ***@****.

I am so excited to see this post. I have been going through the same things that you describe for almost two years. On top of the problems you describe, I got low in vitamin b12 and I am now on shots due to the fact that I have tinglings and numbness when I am digesting.

I have had the white specs for a long time as well. I got my doctor to check for parasites several months ago and it was negative. I recently was given some anti-worm medication (Vermox) just to see. I've taken it twice, three days in a row both times. I noticed that the white specs increased. Then I noticed that they no longer looked like white specs and looked like little fat white worms in the stool.

I am currently waiting a lab test result again. The sample I gave was full of worms, so I am hopeful. I am interested to find out what kind it is.

If you do research, you will find that there are many types of worms. The symptoms you describe sound very similar to mine. I also have the "balloon" and it moves around as I digest. My stools are hard and usually dark. I have constipation and in the past, nausea among many other things. Vitamins and supplements have kept me going.

I have been to doctor after doctor. Many specialists. Had many tests. It is very frustrating. I think my son has them, too. I sent in a sample for him and it came back negative even though I saw some worms in the sample I gave them. His doctor says it could be a different type of worm than they test for. We are awaiting my results. This is very frustrating.

Please e-mail me because I am interested to hear more about your symptoms. I will keep you updated.

the white specs sound like it could be candida (yeast, fungus) that would make sense since you  were just on a round of antibiotics which can cause a yeast overgrowth. There are lots of natural treatments such as caprilic acid, oregano capsuls, and grapefruit seed extract. Hydro colonics to clean out dead yeast and parasites once you kill them. Also avoid foods with sugar, yeast, high carb/starch. Consult with a ggod local alternative, holistic practioner, they are well educated on candida.

It does sound like you do have IBS.  I now that it has gotten a rep for being the "I dont know" answer to things but it truly is a condition.  I get the so called mucus stools and extreme pain in the lower left side of my stomach. I have times where I may go days without a movement and then sometimes days of everyday.  I have spells where I will get that pain in my left side that is so bad, I get over heated and almost pass out.  I will sit on the toilet for long time, then eventually start going.  Each time I go, it gets looser and looser til it is acid water. My stomach also feels bloated all the time.  Does eating a big meal tend to make you have to run to the bathroom like it does me? Especially if you have not eaten anthing before that meal.  I know that fried foods and things like tomato paste or sauce cause me problems.  My gstro doctor (and everything I have read on the internet) says people with IBS should eat smaller, more frequent meals thru the day.  I have been following those guidelines and much as possible and it does help. Hope this is of some help to you and if you have any hints for me I would appreciate it. It helps to know you are not alone.

I feel I could right a book, but I won't.  My problems started over 2 years ago.  I have been diagnosed with IBS, even though I think it's something else.  One of my symptoms is the white specs.  My doctor also thought it was mucous, but I disagree. When I had a barrium enema, they also found I have some diverticulosis.  But they said that was not a big deal.  My bowel movements are constantly changing, but most of the time I have the little white specs.  Surely SOMEBODY knows what this is.  We can't be the only people that has this.  Another symptom of mine is I'm always bloated.  I usually start the day off burping.  And, I feel like there is a balloon in my abdomen, especially on the lower left side (right about where my leg meets my turso).  On occasion I feel pain there.  I also have gurgling sounds on occasion.  Sometimes I feel so much pressure from the "balloon" that I feel the blood supply is being limited to my left leg.  Can anybody tell me what this is, or is it TRULY IBS and diverticulosis?  What can I do?

I have no clue what the white specs could be.  I have had these specs in my stool very similar to what you described for over a year.  Ever since i've had them i've felt sick.  I found that i had h. pylori and i took antibiotics for that, and now that's supposed to be gone.  So, since i'm in perfect health according to all the tests, my doctor says i have irritable bowel syndrome, which just means 'i don't know'.  I've asked my doctor what these specs are and he thinks they're just mucus.  I believe if i can figure out what these specs are and take something to get rid of them, i will be ok again.  So, i would be interested if you figure out what they are, or if anybody knows.
