TO TWEETLEBUG

As I understand this Hida Scan, also called a Pipida Scan, the first thing they inject you is saline to make the liver, pancreas & GB appear on the screen. The 2nd thing they inject is CCK, Kerovac. It is a nuclear medicine.

That's the way they did it both times on me.

Good luck on Monday.
And remember, when you go back to your doctor, get REAL dramatic about your pain. I had to because I have a high tolerance to pain. I even had one doctor tell me that my pain couldn't be THAT bad because I was able to drive myself to the appointment! I am single and had no one to take me. I have since learned, if I ever have pain like this, to MAKE someone take me to the appointment.
Let me know what happens. I think you have a diseased GB from what you've said.

they told me not to eat anything 12 hours before and my test is at 7am so that is really going to stink but I'll do what I need to

The first test I had I ate a very greasy double CB the night before. But that's when the tech screwed up the test...LOL
The 2nd time I was only able to eat bread, mash potatoes & oatmeal without getting those severe pains.

I don't think it makes any difference what you eat as far as the test goes.
I DO know that you are not suppose to eat or drink anything 6 hours right before the test.
Follow those orders! With my first test they did not put any restrictions on food or water. Another reason for the flaw.
I agree with what you said about the doctors needing doctors too.

sometimes the dr makes you think that you are nuts and makes you question yourself maybe someday they themselves will need a doctor and hopefully they will get the same compassion that they give I do plan on eating something really bad for me for supper the night before the test and hopefully my that will help them see that I am not faking and that I am in fact in a lot of pain. I too have a high tolerance for pain and I don't think that the doctor ever takes that into consideration  well time will tell !!!!

I also have another post you may want to read it is around 7/31 Subject Pain in LRQ after GB surgery.
And if you have alot of time..LOL.. go to www.explantation.com
Click on "Our Stories"
Then go to "Anna's Story; The Bitterest Pill I ever had to Swallow."
After I get over this Post-GB thing; which I think is "Chronic Appendicitis" caused from adhesions due to multiple surgeries, I don't want to see a doctor again!
The tests are mostly a way to drive up the bill in my opinion.
I guess that's why they call it "practicing" medicine. I'll tell you though, if I made this many mistakes on my job, I'd get fired. So I fired my doctors in some sense; but only more people will just take my place.
The only other occupation I know of that can make mistakes & still get to keep their jobs are Weathermen! But at least with their mistakes, they're not playing with people's lives.
When people are in pain, we have to go to the doctors office; then wait for test to be scheduled & then wait for them to be read. If we're lucky, they'll call and tell us the results. If tests are negative, we have make another office visit & start the process all over. In the meantime, we are expected to go to work & do our daily chores. Huh?? In pain?? Then we are accused of "just wanting drugs." Huh? I gotta go to work to pay the doctor bills...
Sorry to be so sarcastic; You touched on a nerve here.

My EGD was normal too for a hernia and also my ultra sound was normal. I didn't have an MRI of my gallbladder. But regarding my back herniated disks I've been told my MRI was unremarkable. What good are tests if they don't tell the whole story? I mean we could be tested for cancer and the test come back "unremarkable" and before they discover it we could be dead. I'm trying to be sarcastic here but I'm just getting impatient with my prognosis. Can you tell I've never been ill before? lol. I'll read your post below. Thanks.

Take care,
Abbey

My Gen Surg said he doesn't aleways rely on the Hida Scan for GB function UNLESS the patient had it done twice & also had other tests to rule out other things.
In my case, my 1rst Hida tst showed a "less than 34% function rate." Blood tests showed slight elavation of WBC. Upper EGD was normal. MRI was unremarkable.
The 2nd Hida scan showed 3% GB function rate.
They normally take the GB out at anything ess than 40% function rate as I understand it.
Gen Surg also said when patient comes in & presents alot of nausea and little pain, he doesn't always suspect GB problem. When a patient cames in and complains of PAIN and a little nausea, that's GB problems. Mine was the 2nd complaint.
He said alot of people have their GB out for nausea reasons and about 20% never get relief.
It took care of the pain & little nausea I had. But mine was very disesed & had multiple adhesions. See complets story in "in Pain" post down a few.
Good Luck.

Does a HIDA scan tell the whole story. I had one in May and it said my gallbladder was working at 67% but I've also heard that people who've had the same outcome on the test having their gallbladders out and when the doctor opened them up they saw a diseased gallbladder. How confusing.
