blood in stool

I am a 38 year old male. I have noticed that there was blood in my stool.  Bright red blood.  It has happened before but it stopped after 2 days. I thought that it was hemmroids or an anal fissure.  I just noticed it again.  I feel great and I have been told that both of the above conditions can be painful. I don't feel any discomfort and my stool is normal. Can it still be hemmroids or anal fissures?

Just to help relieve your anxiety a bit...internal hemorrhoids, which can bleed a lot, are actually NOT painful. They lie above the pain-sensing area and are really common. Go ahead and research internal hemorroids and you'll see that they are usually painless but cause bright red blood.

That could be the reason.  My doctor told me that you could even have a bloody nose (that you didn't know about because it bled quickly down the back, or if you floss your teeth and your gums bleed that it could cause blood on the stool.  Just go see a gastro and let him put your mind to rest.  You are probably just fine!

thanks jkfrench. Has anyone heard of c. diff? I had lost my hearing in 1 ear 3 years ago.  I was put on all kinds of meds beacuse they thought it was an infection.  While I was taking these meds, I had gotten a horrible sinus infection so the dr. loaded me up with heavy antibiotics.  These tore me up. The blood in my stool then was horrible.  I mean it looked like someone was hacked to death. This was when the blood in the stool started.  I stopped taking them and ate yogurt and it stopped.  This recent episode is nothing compared to that but, I was wondering if there could be a connection.  Any help on this let me know.

hi~
Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.  I just had a colonoscopy yesterday.  Acutally the prep was easy because I chose to take the pills.  I was up all night but hey it could have been worse.
I'm under 50 (45) but was having streaks of blood on the outside of my stool.  I was worried out of my mind.  Guess what...I didn't even have a hemmoroid.  Talk about putting your mind to rest.  My colon was perfect.  The procedure was okay.  I chose not to have the sedation and there were a few painful moments (well real painful) but I got through it and once the tube was up, it was very interesting watching him slowly pull it out.  He showed me my appendics and talked about how great the colon looked.  I'm told, with the "twilight" sedation you really don't feel a thing.  So you see, blood doesn't mean the worst.  BUT, you should have it checked for piece of mind.  See a very good gastro doc and let him check you out.  I'm telling you, I was convinced I had cancer and didn't even think I would see Xmas.  Yes, Warrior   God is good!
good luck

The stress is killing me!.  The worst is that it comes and goes.  I feel no pain.  Not even when i am going to the bathroom. I was always under the impression that hemorroids were painful.  Thanks for responding.  I am making an appointment.

erratum: MIXED WITH STOOLS not MIXED WITH BLOOD

It was not actually real blood that you'd see flowing down in the toilet. But it looked like blood clot mixed with the blood.

Hi. My username is WARRIOR IS A CHILD. I'm male 29. y/0. I had symptoms of narrow stools with blood, persistent bloating, early satiety, weight loss... etc.

Just this morning , I had a colonoscopy, the preparation was a lot awful than the procedure itself. It just took 45 minutes and I was totally sedated.

At first, I was diagnosed with IBS-C predominant, so my gastroenterologist recommended some lifestyle changes  like eating veggies, prunes and a lot of fiber. He also prescribed me with Ganaton/Motilium and Buscopan/Eldicet.

At first it improved a lot. However after several days, symptoms were recurring. What prompted my GI to have me under colonoscopy was the bleeding in my stool.

It was not actually real blood that you'd see flowing down in the toilet. But it looked like blood clot mixed with the blood.

Yet. GOD IS SO GOOD. Praise to you oh Lord our GOD. My anxiety is over.

The results turned out to be NEGATIVE for COLON CANCER. I was positive for  internal hemorroids.

Guys, I advise you to really have yourself undergo with such a procedure. It could save your life and put ur mind really at peace.!!!!

Praise be to GOD our FATHER

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
There are many causes for bright red blood, including hemorrhoids, polyps, anal fissures, and possibly cancer.

I would obtain an endoscopy to exclude cancer or polyps.

If negative, treatment can be aimed at hemorrhoids - such as a suppository or surgical referral.

These options should be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
