i am starting to think i may never find out what is wrong with me. first one touches my stomche and says "you're fine, i'm sending you home" another touches my stomache and says "i feel something hard but it's probably constipation" sent me home with lacutose. had small BM but am still in tons of pain! (even with the lacutose i still had to strain!) the pain has spread up under my ribs and i feel like i really might die. (although i am sure this is untrue, it hurts so bad and i am sick of it)i think the lacutose gave me gas so now i am having gas pains on top of my pre-existing pain. the dr. that gave it to me told me to call if the lacutose didn't help my pain in 2 days. tomorrow is it, i feel like none of these drs. give a ****. the least they could do is a urine test/blood test to check for infection! what do i do?!
Ask you family and friends if they can recommend a good gastro doctor. If you work, ask co-workers the same thing. If you are on an insurance plan, ask them for a referral. Or if all that fails, call one of the University or well known hospitals in your area, ask for the gastrointology dept and tell them you are a new patient in need of a gastrointologist. Don't give up!
i called all of the gastros in my area and none of them can get me in until dec. i really don't think i can wait that long. on top of that with no insurance they want $250 just to see me! meanwhile i have blood mixed in (not on my tp!) my stool and horrible abdominal aches, today it has brought tears to my eyes. this cannot just be constipation, the lacutose has done nothing, it almost like something is stopping my bowels from working properly. i have had it and think that i am going to an e.r. (the methodist one here is supposed to be good) and demand help. someone needs to help me.i don't know what else to do?!
does anyone know what organs etc are located on the left side of the body?
In reponse to the earlier posting! I am a 36 yr old female who dealt with upper abdominal pain for approximately 10yrs. My Gallbladder was removed about 10 yrs ago and never corrected the problem. I had a frequent endoscopy's and colonoscopy's, without an explanation or answer regarding my mysterious pain. The pains grew more frequent and more intense with each passing year. My last Doctor finally came out and told me that he thought I was depressed and gave me prescription for Paxil. After this, I was definitely depressed. Three more years would pass, until I finally learned of my diagnosis. In Oct/Nov 2001, I realized that I had lost 30lbs (seemed like overnight), was extremely anemic, could not eat, and could not have a bowel movement any longer. I had always been constipated, but things had gotten increasingly worse. My doctor admitted me to the hospital for a blood transfusion, but also ordered some more tests to further investigate. After getting a CT scan, I was told that I had a mass in the terminal ileum (the end) of my small intestine. Probably cancer and probably Lymphoma. I felt such anger!! After the resection of my bowel, it was determined to be Fibromyxoid Sarcoma. A rare cancer, almost never seen in the small intestine. I was told that this had been a slow growing cancer and was probably there for 10yrs.
I suggest to everyone experiencing a similar situation, please find a doctor that will investigate. It took 10 yrs in my case and was almost too late. Listen to your bodies! Don't give up!
It definitely sounds like your colon. My best friend had something similar to your experience. She was sent home from the ER and told she had food poisoning. Within a couple of hours she was readmitted to a different hospital with a twisted bowel. It got so bad that it became herniated and bulged out of the side of her abdomen. I don't want to sound gross but she began vomitting and she said it was fecal matter. She ended up having a resection of her large intestine. She is fine now, but only thanks to the care of responsible attending physicians. She was in excrutiating pain. If you are experiencing nausea with your symptoms and have this type of pain, do not hesitate to get yourself to a hospital.
I am so sorry to hear of your frustrations. I am a medical professional myself and like you, I wouldn't stand for such poor care. Your family doctor/primary care physician should have referred you to a GI doc or at least thought of getting an x-ray or colonoscopy. It sucks these days that insurance company's dictate medical care. Believe me...I see it first hand. If it would make you feel better, go to an ER. At least they will work you up or even maybe admit you and get you a GI doc. Take care...and be stern. Don't be obnoxious, but be persistent. Demand, in a nice way, you want to be taken care of. Don't put a price on your life.

I agree with RTFLY, get to a hospital. Discuss with them what kind of medical assistance might be available to help you out, be in State assistance or local government assistance. They should know what is available to you. The main point is you need medical treatment and need it now. Head to the ER as soon as you can.
did you ever find out WHICH parasite your daughter had? I'd like to find someone who does "kineseology" tests. I have read a lot in the past few years that parasites in people are very common and MOST of the time overlooked, and can cause serious problems, if not diagnosed and eliminated. The trouble is, most cookie cutter medical labs, do NOT have the right technology to detect parasites!!! Any comments?
Oh my gosh, that is a horrible thing that you and your family went through, especially for no reason! I have 4 kids, 3 sons and a daughter who is 9. My oldest son is 14 and there is no way I could go through what you went through. You must have been out of your mind for those 6 weeks. I have to tell you, that while reading your story, I was almost crying. NOw Iam not trying to sound like a freak but it truly got to me. I give you alot of credit for remaining strong and getting to the bottom of it!
Reading June5's complaint... that is sickening what you have to go through for medical service where you are - move to Canada. You can walk into a doctor's office anytime etween 8am - 9 pm and be seen for FREE and treated FOR FREE.
I agree!! Doctor's don't care and when they don't know how to figure out what's wrong with a patient they guess. My daughter's been going through complete hell the past year. It started with abdominal pain and severe weight loss. She looked skeletal. She was 15 at the time and lost a total of 25 pounds, plus her muscles. I changed pediatricians and took her to a gastoenterologist. He did an endoscopy, colonoscopy, gastric emptying test, cat scan, ultrasound, and various blood tests. The preps for the tests made her lose even more weight. The only positive results were a gliadin antibody and the gastric emptying test showed a motility disorder. After that he tested for parasites and it came back negative. She had to eat so much food per day, plus those liquid drinks for the elderly only to gain a pound and lose two pounds. We would jump for joy if the scale showed gainage. The first pediatrician said that he wanted me to put her in an institution for an eating disorder and he refused to do any tests because he is going by statistics. Thank God I had the gastro doctor. I refused to put her in the institution because I knew it wasn't an eating disorder and he called the dept. of children and families. So a case was opened with the state and the case worker was working with me to figure out what was wrong with my daughter. She even came up with a test that could be done, such as Cystic Fibrosis. A couple of months later I got a new case worker who decided to pull an evaluation with a pysciatrist because Melissa was still low on her weight. She had meet us at the hospital and they decided to go with the original pedicatricians concern and demanded I put her in the institution for an eating disorder. Again I refused because I knew it wasn't an eating disorder, but no one would listen to me. So the state took temporary custody of my daughter and claimed I had Munchausens Syndrom by proxy. They came to my door with the police and took my sick daughter. If you can imagine, my daughter is now not only sick, but she is in a foster home with someone that is clueless as to her condition and thinks she has an eating disorder too. She wouldn't buy her the food she wanted and it got worse. She ended up being hospitalized for two weeks because she lost more weight. Lack of food didn't help the situation. She went through evaluations and had a nurse in her room 24/7 with the bathroom locked and they gave her a small amount of calories per day and worked the calorie count up each day. Something about re-feeding syndrome. Boy were they wrong. My daughter ate good. They discovered that she doesn't have an eating disorder and still treated her as if she did. They ran NO GI tests on her to determine what was going on except for an xray that showed her bowels were impacted as I had repeated stated to the prior doctors. My daughter would not have bowel movements. Her appetite was bad too. Six weeks later I got her back from the states temporary custody order once they realized they shouldn't of taken her, actually the judge stated that. DCF is still holding me responsible for medical neglect for not putting her in the institution, after all I did was seek a diagnose and had everything done possible to determine what was going on. She has been diagnosed with parasites via kineseology after 4 different parasite tests came back negative. I will know in another week exactly what parasite it is. I'm not saying that this is what everyone has, but it is very hard to diagnose and it has a wide range of symptoms. There are many different types and it would be worth your while to have "not just a parasites test done", but a stool analyst test done as one of the tests you do. If you're doctor doesn't think it's necessary, he's an idiot and you need to find a better doctor that has some Naturopathic under his belt. There are doctors that are both MD and Naturopathics. They're hard to find, but they're out there. Call your local medical board to assist you.
I am going to find out which parasite it is sometime after Thanksgiving. We are working on the analyst test now. She will be off the herbs for three days and then do the test for the next three bowel movements. The test is mailed overnight. It's all included in the package. She will be given a prescription and then I am going to keep her on the awareness products.
so i called my dr. to tell him that the stuff he gave me didn't work to well and that i have black and maroon in my stool (what little of it there is) and that sometimes when i try to go all that comes out is mucous. and his office tells me they are refering me to a gastro and that she is timely on her appts. so i am happy because i just cannot feel like this much longer (every nite i look like i am 6 months pregnant, but no weight gain?) so i call the gastro and they tell me they can't see me until dec 3rd! i was so **** off, i wanted to cry. i told them i really need to be seen and they told me i'd have to go to the hospital then. so tonite i am going. i am a little worried about that whole "something hard" comment that the dr said. i just want to be out of pain so i can live normally again! i feel so bad because i complain about feeling like **** all of the time and i think ppl are sick of it :(
so tonite is the nite that i (hopefully) will find out what is wrong with me. i'll let you all know....
Suzie, Bless you dear little heart - I'm glad you have your daugther back. If it were me, I would have been in jail for what I would have done!
Get the best damn lawyer you can and sue the pants off those bastards (sorry for the strong language). It makes my blood boil that we are at the mercy of bureaucrats and law enforcement agencies. We live in a free world!! Sometimes I wonder.
Need to be careful embracing Applied Kinesiology...see the following link. Suzie, I hope it's helped you find your answer for your precious daughter, but don't count on it. My experience fits more with the article in the link below.
Thank you for your support!! It was horrible to say the least! I'm just glad I have her back because I believe that she would of perished if they kept her. I used to sneak my daughter food through her friends because the foster mother wouldn't buy her the food she wanted. My daughter would make a grocery list of about 20 items and the foster mother would buy two of them. She used to beg and plead with her at the grocery store for Hershey's chocolate syrup and she would say no. She said no to most of the things she wanted her to buy. Granted she's a picky eater, but you don't take a sick child and not accommodate them with the food they want to eat. I could only talk to her for 10 minutes a day and it couldn't be about food or her medical condition. When she was admitted to the hospital for two weeks for being at a critical low weight, because the first foster mother didn't supply the foods she liked. I was banned from seeing her AND I couldn't no phone calls. Her friends were under the same rules. No vistis or phone calls. Luckily she had a good attorney that visited her and bought her things. I am pursuing a law suit, but I can't talk about it. I never had a problem with a bad doctor prior to this, but I can tell you my daughter and I are scarred for life. The worst part about the doctor is he was her doctor for 6 years. I am very careful when I pick a doctor. I can't give you more sound advice than to get in touch with The Great Smokies Lab and ask them to provide you with a list of good doctors in your area. Tell them that you don't want any "iffy" doctors. They know the good ones. They have a web-site too www.gsdl.com. Click on news do a search for your condition. The number is 800-522-4762. I always hit 0 and ask for clinical support. I'm not sure who assisted me with the list of providers, but they can direct you to the right person.
The Naturopathic also had my daughter's previous test results and lab work ups to go over. That helped her to narrow it down. She admitted that if it wasn't for the test results she would of had to do tests. Of course like anything else it's buyer beware. You will find good and bad in every medical practice. I know that I have a good Naturopathic. She has an outstanding record with the Medical Board and she comes highly recommended. She doesn't charge as much as the doctors that have this market cornered. Most doctors that have this experience knows what it's worth and they don't take medical insurance as payment and they charge $300 per half hour. You can submit a claim and get reimbursed. Someone that I work with was "finally" diagnosed through Kinesiolgy. She had been through multiple tests that came out negative only to find out that she was gluten intolerant. You know the doctor is right when you get well again. That's the only evidence I need.
