stomach pain after gallbladder surgery

About 2 years ago I had my gallbladder removed.  Since then I have a sharp pain in my upper abdomen the same location of pain when I had my gallbladder.  I started to experience diarrhea and pain after eating.  My doctor gave my Questan which I tolerate well.  My question is how long can I stay on the Questan and what are the long term effects of this drug?  The medicine does help the diarrhea but doesn't help the pain.  I am starting to regret ever having my gallbladder removed in the first place because I am still having the same problems as before.  Thank you for your time in helping me!

I too had my gallbladder removed approximately 4 years ago and experience the same pain that you are.  It is not a constant pain but only at intervals. I have found that when I over eat and when the foods that I have consumed are on the greasy side, the pain seems to appear although it comes and goes anyway. I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome a few years ago but I hardly believe there is a connection with this pain.  I have told doctors about the pain and I'm pretty much ignored.

I had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago. After the surgery, I had HORRIBLE pain, to make a long miserable story short, I had bile leaking into my abdomen. When the gallbladder was removed, a leaking duct was not discovered. After 2 CT's, Chest X-Rays and a Hida Scan, they discovered that the duct was leaking and I was sent to radiology to have a stint placed in the main binary duct, to relive pressure. In 2 months, the stint will be removed and everything should be ok.

HI THERE I HAD MY GALLBLADDER OUT ABOUT 1 1/2 YRS AGO AND FOR THE LAST 5 MONTHS HAVE HAD SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN SOME WHAT LIKE THE PAIN FROM MY GALLBALDDER ATTACKS  BUT SOMETIMEW WORSE AND ON BOTH SIDES THEY CHECK MY LIVER FUNCTIONS AND DURING THE PAIN THERE REALLY OUT OF WACK SO IM WORRIED ABOUT MY LIVER IN THE LONG RUN MY DR WANTS TO DO A ERCP ON WEDS IM SCARED THEY THINK ITS A BLOCKAGE IN MY BILE DUCT A STONE THE ONE THING THAT I DONT AGREE WITH IS I DID NOT EVER HAVE STONES TO BEGIN WOITH SO HOW DO I NOW? ANY SUGGESTIONS? HELP

Hi Guys,

I had my Gall bladder removed last July and I am still suffering from the same pains. It's great to see that I am not the only one. I have had blood tests and an ultrasound scan all of which have come back as being normal. After a while when the doctors keep telling you they can't find anything you begin to start thinking your mind is playing tricks on you. Thanks to see all your comments I now realise that I am not the only one and that there is a problem.

My question is I had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago and immediately after the surgery I experienced same pain where gallbladder use to be and still get the pain off and on.  I am now seeing a gastroenterologist who guesses I'm suffering from IBS.  I have been on Librax for six months with no relief w/ the meds.  I finally convinced this dr. to do further testing because my life is not the same.  I am having CT scan in a few weeks of my stomach.  I'm questioning whether I should have had the gallbladder removed afterall.........I'm still having same type of symtoms when I had the gallstones.   I'm 31 and a mother of a 2 year old and really want my life back.  Any suggestions from anyone?  Thanks.

I have been on this same medication for 2 months.My GP put me on this after my Gastro Doc told me I had IBS. It has worked very well for me. My doctor told me this past Thursday that this is very safe and do not worry about your cholesterol going too low. She is going to check my liver enzymes about every 6 months. My pain especially in my back is so much better. Also, she said that I probably still have an obstruction that they can't find after my ercp. I feel very thankful that she tried this drug when the other doctor blew me off.I just hope the obstruction does not get any bigger and this continues to work. Also, have you worked of two packets a day...because I did not get relief till I used two packets and it took about two weeks before the pain was noticeably better. I hope this helps...good-luck.

I have this exact problem.  The dumping and the pain. I don't know much about the Questran other than it made me terribly constipated, (I don't know which was worse!) and I didn't take it long.  
The pain doesn't seem to get much better.  I had my surgery in 1998 (or 99) and it has gotten nothing but worse.  And whats worse?  They (all of the docs and specialists I have seen) can't figure out why I am still having pain after all this time.  
I posted earlier about this in the "Doctors... GRRR!" post.  
And if you go through the past 10 days worth of posts you will see that you aren't the only one so don't feel like you have to bear all of this on your own either.
