SCARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi, i am a 19 y/o male with upper abdominal pain. i have been having the pain for several months. its not too severe, but i have been feeling really nasues and like i have to throw up. I haven't thrown up yet, but i'm starting to feel like i have to. i have been burping a lot, almost all day. they are not loud burps. i also can hear my stomach girggling sometimes. the pain is beginning to worsen. i have visited my doctor and he prescribed me medicine for gastritis acid control. however, the medicine did not work. i went back, and he diagnosed me with IBS. since the pain has been ongoing and persistent for several months, i am starting to worry that it is something serious. i asked and received a referral today to go see a gastrologist. hopefully they can tell me something. im really concerned with the silent burping and nasues feeling. im really scared that i might have stomach cancer. even though i am young, i read a story on the internet of a 19 y/o girl who was diagnosed with IBS like me, however her medication that she was given did not work. After going back to the doctor, they learned that she had stomach cancer. So please help me, i am reallllllly scared!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to tell you that I will say a prayer for you.  Please try to relax and not think about the CANCER word.  You need more testing and there is nothing you can do to help by worrying, especially if it were to be ulcers - you can make that worse by stressing out about it.  I don;t know if it is in your beliefs but - put it in God's hands...

Me, too, DRN21! I was just released from the hospital after 3 days of tests. LOTS of burping, stabbing pain in upper right quadrant of stomach. I went to the doctor because someone told me that the burping (with NO acid reflux) is either a heart issue or some other organ. Turns out my gall bladder is functioning at 10%, meaning it has to come out.I also have ulcers in my esophagus along with anemia. And I feel fine! But they dis do an ultrasound of my heart and gall bladder. I had the "scope" to see if I had any stomach ulcers (that's when they found the esophagus ulcers) and I had a "nitro" test to look at my gall bladder. I don't know your insurance situaton, but insist on the works! Xrays, ultrasounds and scopes. Write down EVERYTHING you're feeling and experiencing so they will give you the right tests.

I'm not a doctor but I think it could be your gallbladder.  I had mine out earlier this year and I experienced similar symptoms.  One of the worst pains I've ever felt was during a gallbladder 'attack'.

Follow the MD's advice and get everything checked out.  But remember too that pain is a warning sign that something's out of kilter, but not always a sign of manifested disease.  I've had terrible periods of IBS on and off over the years (even gone to the emergency room a few times), and work hard to keep it under control, but it doesn't mean cancer.  So don't actively worry -- just calmly check out every possibility with your doctors.  Good luck!

My girlfriend has had a problem with her stomach for months now, almost a year!  She has been checked on and no one seems to know whats wrong.  Now its to the point where shes going to acupuncture for help.  She has had a colonoscopy and an ultrasound, and nothing showed up.

She has IBS.
She hates to eat because it always upsets her stomach.
It hurts standing, sitting, and laying down.
It is a strong DULL pain, not a Sharp pain.
I can feel her stomach rumble when i put my hand on it.
She throws up sometimes.
It is not in a certain spot, It is in her lower stomach and upper stomach.

Some more info that might not relate...
She has asthma, but it doesnt normally bother her
She recently told me that she gets hot flashes and chills, but that might not be related to the stomach problem because she is also sick with a "hacking" cough at the moment where she coughs up mucus.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE YOUR PROBLEM TOO

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
I agree with the referral to the GI physician.  Further evaluation of the upper digestive tract can be done with an upper GI series or endoscopy.  This can look for ulcers and inflammation, as well as stomach cancer.

If negative, imaging the abdomen with a CT scan or ultrasound can be considered.  Upper abdominal pain can be caused by gallbladder or liver disease, which these tests can evaluate.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Have you had blood tests run? Were your liver enzymes at normal levels? I have these same symptoms and I was diagnosed with nonalcoholic fatty liver. I had a liver biopsy and was told I have mild inflammation and fibrosis. I'm really not sure how serious this is, since I haven't found a doctor who has been able to tell me much. They have all told me that fatty liver, even with inflammation, doesn't typically have symptoms, aside from occasional fatigue. I've had a chronic dull ache in my abdomen, a strange nagging feeling of nausea, and a constant dull headache and fuzzy-headedness. I have consistently loose, floaty stools. I also have a feeling of weakness and tingling or burning in my chest and arms. I used to wake up with an itchy rash some mornings, but that doesn't happen often anymore. In any case, it's been about two years since all this suddenly started and the symptoms have gone into remission twice, then come back. Be careful about getting too upset over things you read on the internet. These types of symptoms seem to be common to many chronic, but not necessarily life threatening conditions.
