I think keeping your other dogs shots completely up to date is very important. I came into a relationship with a guy who had stopped giving his 11 yr old huskey shots, and right away I took charge and got her fully vaccinated. We've been together 3 yrs and I always made sure to take her to the vet because she was so old.
I have heard that distemper is pretty rare now and I'm very sorry that you lost your puppy because of it. I just lost the 14 yr old huskey that I mentioned above. It is very hard to lose a dog they become family members. Its good that you have the other pup though because although you are all sad this experience will help bring you together

Oh I am very sorry. I mis-read your post. I am so sorry you had to have your puppy put to sleep. This is very sad, and I feel so much for you. You must be very upset.
Please accept my condolences.
Distemper vaccine is part of the puppy shots & adult vaccines.....Had she had any of hers? I agree, Distemper is rather rare!!! I'm sorry for your loss, Karla
A vaccine for Distemper? Yes there is, puppies should receive their puppy shots, which usually gives protection against Distemper among other illnesses.
or older dogs maybe older than 5, it's wise to ask the vet to run "Titer Testing" instead of just giving them their booster innoculations without question every year. Over-vaccinating can lead to problems when they get older.
Titer tests will show if the dog still has immunity to any of the Canine illnesses and whether or not it needs to be re-vaccinated.
