I would not use Trilostane again, I would go with Lysodern. We had no luck at all with the trilostane. My vet was clueless on how to handle the drug.
Gee why do these guys say its not the test ??? how are they so sure.If I were you I would look on the net and see how many other dogs had the same prob after getting this particular injection. If there are quite a few take it into your Vet so he might think twice about using this drug.
Trouble is he cant admit it to you as it is then his responsibility and he could be liable.
All he can do is trust the the rep who sold it to him in the first place.
Ticklish situation.
Sorry to hear your pup was ill after the ACTH test. My pup, Louie, stopped eating after the last ACTH test, but my vet also said it wasn't the test. Turns out Louie had terrible side effects from the new medication, trilostane. He stopped eating all together, had vomiting, the poops and lethargy. After numerous testing, he was found to be dehydrated and possible kidney conflicts. I've now heard from 2 other vets that they are not impressed this trilostane. Seems I will have to put Louie on the tried and tested Lysodern which has been around for years. Perhaps, besides a new vet, search out info from the internet and possibly a referral of a vet familiar with Cushings pups. Has anyone else had a problem with the newest med, Trilostane? Thank you.
The day we bought our dog home after the ACTH test, she was so weak and sick I thought she would be dead by morning. I called the vet the next day, and he was clueless as to why she was so sick, he said it couldn't have anything to do with the test he gave. I know it did. He was clueless on anything related to Cushings Disease, and other than taking our cats in for shots, we won't go to him again.
