Black spots on my Bully!!

Good evening all! I have a 3 1/2 year old female english bulldog, Lucey! She is my pride and joy and the two of us have been through a lot together the last 2 years (death of one of her owners, 2 moves, lots of life changes). She is fixed so she is nice and chunky ( about 80 lbs) and she loves to play. She has the best temper with people and especially children (she loves them!!) and she loves to play catch and kick the soccer ball.

So my two questions are:
1. What is the best food for my fat girl? I would like to get her on a healthy diet and get her to lose a couple pounds.

2. Since about Decemeber 2011 she has been getting these spots on her sides. They are on both sides and have turned her skin black and she is losing/lost most of the hair on those two spots. They do not bother her and don't smell, but they look horrible and I want to get her hair back! Any ideas on what this is? How I can fix it?

Like I said she's such a sweety, but I need to get my fat girl healthy! LOL Please help if you can :)

There is a strange bully 'issue' called seasonal flank alopecia where bullies have this skin darkening/hair loss during certain times of the year.  There is also 'atypical' alopecia where a few bullies (mine was one lol) get it during the opposite time of the year from the norm.  Vets usually put them on a dose of melatonin which does seem to greatly help.  You do need a vet that is knowledgeable in 'bully specific issues' to get this diagnosed.  Google it and see if you think that describes your bully and then talk to your vet.
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum......What food has your girl eaten for these years? How much do you feed her per day? Has your Vet had a look at the black spots? What did he/she suggest they were? Any ideas? Let me know.....Karla
