Bladder Stone Surgery options and costs for Shi Tzu & costs
My 15 yr. old Shi Tzu with Leukemia (in remission) now has bladder stones and needs surgery after trying special food and antibiotics to dissolve.
I live in the Dallas area and our Cancer Specialist discovered the stones. His surgery quote was $2500. My regular vet in McKinney quoted $800-$1000. I took my dog to another good vet in the Commerce area and his quote is $550. Amazing price differences! However, my concern is my dog's age and the Leukemia as well. Last vet said that she needs to be off her Chlorambucil (cancer drug) for 2 weeks before we can do the surgery and then stay off for 4 weeks total. I was wondering about the option to dissolve stones instead of the surgery? Would it be safer at her age and condition? What would be the cost of such be in my area and does any have a specialist referral for this?
