I too am so sorry for your loss.
Yes, I have seen bleeding from the mouth when a dog passed but it was due to an internal hemorrhage. I would not consider that "normal" and I have sent many animals to The Bridge over the years. That seems like a pretty vague response on the Vet's part.
Honestly, and I am not saying there is not such a medication, but I never heard of one that dissolve a blockage. Why did she put him on an antibiotic? Whatever the other medication was, she obviously took precautions if she prescribed something to coat his stomach.
Yes, we're x-Rays or an ultrasound done?
Even so, there could have been something going on that the tests might not have detected. Something obviously hemorrhaged for there to be bleeding.
Unfortunately, unless a necropsy had been done, you probably will never know for sure.
After this experience, I think I would consider a new Vet.
Wish I could be of more help but I would like to know the name of that med that dissolves obstructions.
My heart goes out to you. You did the best you could for your beloved pet.
I don't know but when I called the Vet and asked about the bleeding I was told this was normal in all cases of animals passing away. I disagreed because I have had pets pass on their own or by the aide of a vet and never once had this happen. 3 different x-rays were done on him last week and nothing showed a blockage. The medication that I was told to give him 3x a day was for paritinitis even though she said she could not firmly diagnose that is what he had. This is a medication designed to desolve foreign objects that may become blocked.
I don't know....but it is possible he had some internal damage as a result of blockage. Was an x-ray done? That might not have shown up certain things, but other items would have shown on an x-ray.
Yes of course I suppose it is possible that a medicine given to 'dissolve a possible blockage' could have been very irritating....I don't know and can't really comment as I've never heard of that.
I am very sorry for your loss indeed.
How can 'bleeding heavily from the mouth' ever be considered as "normal"? What does the vet mean -"normal"??
