yes Im starting to think you are right, I was going to call the store I bought it and ask if they were scotch guarded or something and Im going to bring up my shampoo'r in the morning and give it a shampoo and see if it helps ,it wont hurt because Im running out of idea's here and I hate him being drugged up daily ,I'll let you know how it goes ty for responing
The Wellness brand is a decent brand, they have some that are not grain-free and some that are. I'm wondering if the new carpet was treated with some chemical or stain protector at the factory and he is sensitive to that? I know some dogs are even sensitive to the dryer softener sheets ( I had one!)
Good luck and I hope Chewie can sleep some!
thank you for that information I should have been giving my dog 3 tablets then as I have 25 mg doses, Im going to give Chewie 3 tonight so we can all sleep well. Ive stopped The Vanectyl he has been on it for a few months with no relief for him ,Ive been reading up on home remedies tonight trying to find some kind of help thinking maybe I have a few situations that dont connect with each other instead of looking for an ailment that has all his symptoms, maybe I can tackle this one symptom at a time ,there was one article that mentioned his symptoms but it said it was associated with vaccines which he hasnt had in 1 1/2 years ,thank you again and Chewie thanks you for hopefully a good nights sleep :)
Just a suggestion as far as the itching ... a dog can take benydryl the same as a human ... we give 1 mg per body weight... ie... 25 mg for a 25 lb dog!! hope that gives the dog some relieve and also helps him rest.. good luck!
Chewie has glass and stainless steel bowls but that was a good call something I would never think of ,Chewie has been on benadryl but Im thinking I may not be giving enough as it doesnt calm him he is 85 lbs and I gave him 1 daily for 3 days than off 3 days ,I might next try to start making his food but my cooking isn't fit for a dog as well lol my son said to me mom whats new is our living room carpet ,its a 9x12 from home depot we noticed he was chewing at it like as if he found a flea ,that has me baffled I vacume it twice daily because he is shedding so much ,the food says natual blend but there are a few words Im going to look up shortly in the ingrediences ,Ive been reading other posts and someone mentioned an oatmeal bath which might give him some relief for the short term ,Im getting miserable with my vet as they charge me outrages prices and are quick to give him perscriptions but for something they haven't pinpointed 6 times we have been and we are no closer to an answer then the first visit ,today he scratches again and continuosly lays beside me licking himself. I know he is wanting me to help him ......maybe there is someone out there that can come read his thoughts might be cheaper and better off then my vet lol
I just took a look at his food its called wellness says grain free, high in protien ,fish , flax and omega blend says natural foods but I did find a few words I dont know what they are ,Im going to look them up pyridoxine hydrochloride and chondroitin sulfate and bata carotine
I don't know if it is allergies, but are you feeding your dog out of plastic bowls, if so, try switching to glass or stainless steel. Some dogs have allergies to the plastic. Also, it may not be bad to try making his food on a short term basis so that you really can control the ingredients. Unfortunately, this can be really slow since the ingredients will have to be removed and added on a trail basis. It is important that you make sure during this that he is getting the proper nutrients. Often a rice/chicken/type food works better than a beef/corn/type food, but if allergies, who knows. As long as the vet rules out all other physical possibilities, it might help to try this. Also, ask the vet about benadryl for your dog. It can be given to dogs and helps with the itching just as it does with humans. Good Luck and keep trying.
You said you tried expensive dog foods, were they grain free? I have no clue if grain free would help, but it might be worth a try.
