Dog bites nails

My dog bites her nails like humans do sort of. She just lays down and starts chewing on them. The thing is she absolutely hates having her nails trimmed. What is she trying to say?

Hello & welcome......One of my dogs has done this a couple of times, too....Yes, it was her actual nails. She would chew them till they didn't even resemble nails!
Turned out to be a fungal infection (Like athletics foot in humans) in her nail beds....

I purchased an anti-fungal/yeast/antibiotic spray from my Vet...Sprayed it on twice a day & it cleared up......When it happened again, I did the same thing....

Like el_em_en_oh said, I believe that allergies triggered it, then the moisture from licking ends up making it worse.....Good luck and give us an update....Karla

Are you sure she's biting her nails? Our mastiff was doing the same thing, and it turns out she was trying to chew/lick the underside of her paw (her pad). The first time she did it, it was due to allergies. The second time, it was because she had a yeast-infection on her foot and she was trying to itch it.

Make sure she really is trying to chew her nails. It really may be that she's trying to get at her pads.

See you have clipped my nails too short again and they hurt.lol

Seriously it sounds like a habit much like us humans .If it gets too bad just paint her nails  with that foul tasting stuff from the Chemist or Drug Store ...it worked for me
