My 2 year old dachshund has CHF and his meds are already not working.

I know most of the CHF posts have been for older dogs.  My poor lil guy just got the bad luck somehow and has been diagnosed with CHF at only 2 years old.  We did the whole 9 yards and got the X-ray's and saw his enlarged heart and the fluids. Our vet put him on a diuretic.  Now it's only been a couple months and he was doing just fine no coughing or fluidy sounds, Now all of a sudden hes got a gurgle going on and coughing again. I'm so worried this medication isn't even helping anymore and that nothing else will since he's so young and already having problems. Other than going back to the vet(which we already have a visit scheduled) is there anything else I can do to help him live better

I'm sorry. Those meds can and usually do need to be adjusted. Your little guy needs a good vet and regular monitoring. I think the 2nd opinion is a good idea on your part.

I had a dog with CHF and he lasted longer than they predicted. I wish you the best!

Thank you so much.  I took him back in to see our vet and they just upped his meds.  I will be going for a second opinion though because the vet didn't even listen to his heart, or even check him out at all. He just asked what happened and wrote another prescription and sent us on our way.

I am so sorry your poor little guy is going through this especially at his young age.
I think the best thing you can do is follow veterinary advice -so long as you completely trust your vet. There may be something you can do at home to help him but I think you will need advice from your vet about those things.

Bless him. I hope something can be one to relieve his fluid accumulation.
