Mutts are great dogs, too. I've always owned a mutt, just because I've always rescued dogs. My first dog was a Chow mix, not sure what other breed, but definitely part chow. She was the sweetest dog ever and I miss that dog. Then I fostered a Labrador mix, and now own my little girl who is a Beagle mix. I love, love Beagles.

German Shepards are very strong willed dogs, but they are sweet. My friend has one and he's protective of the family, so as long as he knows you are good, he's totally playful. But he'll keep an eye on any new person that comes to their home.

Bichons are cute dogs, too. Though I don't know if I would ever own one myself.

English Mastiffs are huge! I remember coming across one by the lake near my family's cabin and my cousin got scared by the dog's sheer size. Though the dog was very nice and totally slobbery. lol.

I probably have a few favorite breeds. I tend more toward the Herding group as I think they are, for the most part, pretty smart.  I have to put Shelties up there and I showed them in Conformation and Obedience for years. After my kids left home and I lost my last Sheltie, I had empty nest syndrome and decided to help with Greyhound Rescue (long story).  We flunked Fostering 101 and ended up adopting the first one we fostered although we have probably had 12-14 of these dogs in our home for various periods of time for one reason or another.  Most are pretty much 45 mph couch potatoes.  LOL!!  This is really the largest breed dog I've owned.  They can make good companion dogs but very few compete in Obedience/Agility, etc.  Our poor Grey is now almost 12 1/2 yrs old and was diagnosed with Lymphoma in May.  I'm afraid he won't be with us much longer but he still enjoys his twice daily walks (most of these dogs are great walking companions).  I keep saying, "No more!"  We'll see but if/'when we do get another dog not sure what I would get, Sheltie? Corgie?  Papillion?  Yes, been looking at Paps for some years and some do very well in obedience.  I wonder if I can even keep up with them in a ring anymore.  LOL!!

I like those street-dog mutt types....don't ask me why Lol! Maybe I'm biased because my dog is one.....
I know I probably shouldn't say this for one reason or another but I met a couple of wolf-dog hybrids once. They were the most unusual and amazing dogs (wolves?) Very different to any dog I had ever met, very noble, and sensitive and alert WAY more than most dogs I have met.

I'd have to say that my favorite breed is the German Shepherd because they are just magnificent looking animals. There is something so intelligent, so strong, so self-assured about their personalities and you can see that in their eyes. I think some people are intimidated by that, but to me, it's like the dog is issuing a non-threatening challenge to come up and meet him on his level.

The dogs I actually own? Goofy mutt-balls from the pound or rescue groups. Right now I have a G.Shepherd/Sheltie mix, the Sheltie part being up for debate. His name is Axel. And then there's Thelma. A middle size Dauschaund/Grizzly Bear cross. She should only weigh about 12 pounds, but she has every single neighboring farmer believing we don't feed her enough so she waddles in at a very plump 16 pounds! She's about the size of a foot long hot dog, but manages to take up not only all the room in our king size bed but all the covers as well. If you want a dog that is totally untrainable, always gets her own way, thinks she's the Westminster Diva and believes we are here solely to wait on her hand and hoof, by all means, get yourself a weiner.

There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

Gotta be the Beagle for me.  I had to put my girl down in Jan. 2011 and it about killed me but the memories have come flooding in and i can actually smile when i think about her now, still thru the tears!  I recently adopted another beagle from a rescue site.  What a special addition she has been, so wonderfully naughty and loveable.  She thinks she is a great dane and noone tells her any differently!!  I think one of the reasons i like this breed is they are so independant, so sure of themselves and they run on their own agenda.  It is true what they say, if you want a dog you can train dont get a beagle!  I love their free spirit.

As for the pits...they do take a bad rap.  All you hear about is the bad stuff.  Those dogs are trained to be mean by their owners.  My daughters have dogs that are part pit and they have no idea they are dogs!!  Spoiled rotten and loveable.

I have always loved bichons for thier personality, smile, bounciness, cuteness, and non shedding quality... and if you keep them in a puppy cut they're easy to maintain (I scissor cut mine once every month and a half).  When our Daisey passed away last year, we opted for a cavachon (bichon and Cavalier King Charles spaniel mix) and if we ever get another puppy that will be our choice!  She is the most loving easy dog ever, and when she looks at you with those ig spaniel eyes she will melt your heart.
Now we have Ginger, the cavachon and Roxy, the bichon.  They are 7 yrs apart in age but are the best of friends..  Ginger is all dog... not quite as prissy and dainty as the bichon, and is the friendliest, most outgoing dog ever!

Ya, a lot of people don't like pit bulls for some reason, but all dogs are sweet unless they are abused or trained to be mean. My neighbor got a pit bull and my mom freaked out, but he was the sweetest dog and his whole body would be shaking he was so excited to see you and play.

American Pit Bull Terrier!  I have 2 (my 3rd passed on 5/29 RIP Pumpkin).  They are loyal, game, sweet, intelligent, playful, loving...should I go on? lol
I used to have Bulldogs and they are awesome too, all bully breeds are.  But the pitties, they get such a bad rap, yet they are the most loving dogs around!

I have always wanted an Italian Greyhound, but those little dogs are expensive and I doubt I will ever get one.

I have a mixed breed dog who is a Beagle, Basset Hound, and Blue Heeler mix. She is such a sweet dog and I love her to death. I would look for another beagle mix for my own family down the line, so I could have a similar dog. She's very intelligent and funny(likes to fake sleep when she knows she's in trouble. lol) and just adorable. She has the head and tail of the beagle, the front legs/feet and body of a basset hound, and the coloring of the blue heeler. She is an interesting dog. A lady at the dog park the other day said she looked like a lab mix, but with her legs chopped off/missing. She's a low rider.

I love Huskies too, but that probably wouldn't be great for my location, since it's too hot here in Southern Calif. I knew a friend who had one in Colorado and she had the most beautiful eyes!

Although i dont own a dog i have always wanted to and i have helped quite a few dogs before by secretly taking them in behind my mums back and then finding homes for them. My favourite breed would have to be a husky because i love the intensity of their eyes and because they look like my spirit animal which is a wolf.
