Fleas

What is the best way to get fleas off my dog.  It seems that no matter what I use they come right back.  I have use Frontline, Capstart K-9 Avandtix you name it. I have spent a fortune and nothing.  and we have tried treating the yard and that did no good either.  My poor dog chews holes in herself.  Please can anyone help me.

Hi,  I had that problem with my dog last summer. He is a large cross mastiff/boxer and I tried Frontline, capstart tablets and Advantix all to no avail. In desperation I went to our local Farm Supply Store and purchased a tin of NUCIDOL 200EC, which is diluted in water and sprayed on dog.  This gave immediate relief and still no sign of fleas in 6 mths.  A bottle of FORTUNE 500 multipurpose insecticide was also purchased to spray the yard for fleas and this also had an immediate good result.   I know how you must be feeling as we were desperate also.   I live in Australia but hopefully there should be similar items in your farm supply stores that will help.

I had that issue with my dog my vet gave me these flea pills I love gets rid of them for a whole month and no worry about her rubbing the medicine off its called Comfortis they cost a lil more but I think its worth it easpecially if you have lil ones or dont want your dog licking the meds or rubbing them off. Hope this helps your dog 8D

P.S. Give your dog a bath first than the pill and dont forget to deflea your house, their bedding and anything else. Make sure if you decide to use Comfortis that your dog eats it after a full meal.

i use johnson baby shampoo and put AVON SKIN SO SOFT in it my dogs have never had a flea or tick they hate that stuff. just mix in shampoo, spray a little on them now and than. not to much its a real strong smell and makes them not feel good if to much. but it works great.

I have a question  where did you get your frontline? I read on a group I was on that some company was putting out a fake frontline ..Look to see if it has an orange line across the back if you still have any left .. I did some research looking to see if they can become immune and found no they cant as it is a pesticide .. I did read that if you still have  a problem  work on treating the home and yard frontline has a spray  use it on everything in the home every few days because Fleas lay eggs everywhere and hatch in different cycles.

we have been using frontline for at least 4 yrs every month yr round sceduled and it has always worked this is the first yr it hasnt and after using it and noticing in the spring that my 4 dogs was infested with fleas had no other choice but to try other things so yes i agree with u but for some reason stuff is not working this yr on getting rid of the fleas

I have 16 dogs and 5 cats I only use frontline and have never had a flea in my home ..  All my dogs are in my home and play outside ..I see you list many things are you doing them all at once? Frontline takes  a few weeks to work  once you have fleas ..You can not put any other flea med on or it will make the frontline not work anymore you can not shampoo for 2 days and NO flea shampoo ..bomb the house and in 2 weeks do it again spray the yard  but pick one flea treatment on the pet and stick with it after 2 days you can give the dog oatmeal baths to help the itch

i also live in Missouri and am also havin the same exact problem u r we have treated EVERYTHING and EVERYWERE including front and back we have also tried suggestion of putting salt in house on all carpets leaving it for 24hrs then vaccuum it up and still didnt work but worked for the person last yr i have also talked to ALOT of others that live in same state that r also having same problems with fleas this yr and have tried all possible we have also talked to our vet an they r also having problems an when the vet has problems with fleas u know something bazzar is going on
  i live atleast 100 miles from u it might not have anything in common but i also know ppl in st louis havin problems with fleas this yr also i just hope we can due something my dogs r now running from me instead of being happy to see me due to all the daily bathes ive been givin them cause i dont want to harm them with anymore chemicals ive even been washing them with dawn dish soap which has worked EVERY YR except this yr
  if anyone havin same problem figures this out PLEASE help the dogs need relief one of them cry all the time from this

If he comes inside you also need to deinfest the house as well a the outside(back and front yard) and treat all the animals in the house  you might even need to bomb the house if it is bad and also talk to you vet maybe there is a better flea med that he could suggest, there is a monthly oral chewable flea med that is called comfortis it is said to start killing flea in 30 min it kills the adult fleas and prevents eggs from hatching and larva from growing. But pls, talk to your vet he knows what is best for your dog and if it is safe for him evry med could have side effects but sure vet can help.
