Frontline Issue

I use Frontline on my little Chi-Pom and I use the appropriate dose, given to us by the vet. I noticed last month about 3-4 days after treatment that she was nauseated for a day; I can tell when she is nauseated because she will not eat and she shakes more than normally. I gave her pepto and she got over it and was fine. This month it happened again. She even threw up a bit. It was 3 days after Frontline. I immediately bathed her and gave her more pepto and she was again fine. I am scared to death to give her more next month, but she has a TERRIBLE (let me say that again) TERRIBLE flea allergy. One flea and she is extremely itchy, red eyes, black patches on her skin, it is beyond awful.

I was wondering if there really are any "natural" remedies that really work. I have already done the whole "tea tree", "rosemary", "lemon oil" etc. so-called remedies that I found online and they simply don't work. Short of giving her a bath every other day, what will I do to treat and prevent fleas? I need something that REALLY works, not something that so-and-so's brothers uncle tried and swears by.

I was also wanting to chat about vaccinations. I have never vaccinated Mattie due to these allergies. It scares me to death that she will be allergic to one and it will kill her. But again, I worry about her coming into contact with the diseases for which she should be vaccinated.

In case you can't tell I love this dog more than my own life and I want her to be around for as long as possible and I want to do the "right thing" by her in all aspects of her life.

Thanks a bunch!

Thank you so much everyone! I have been so busy I am just now getting back to this, but I wanted to be sure to thank everyone.

Actually I had heard about the Dawn thing before, but I hesitated because her skin is so dry, I was afraid that since it is a "grease cutter" it might dry her out. But I was thinking if I could use that and then get a good "doggie" conditioner  then it might combat the dryness. Or even an oil treatment with a good natural oil like olive or castor.

I had also heard about the yeast, but she is so finicky I don't know if I could get her to eat it! lol I am thinking though that if I put it in something she REALLY likes then it might work. Does it have a flavor of its own? She just loves ice cream, and while I don't give her very much, I will let her lick my bowl or spoon sometimes and if I could put it in a little of that then that might get her to eat it. So would that "hide" the flavor?

Yes, I know she is so spoiled and pampered! lol My children are grown so I have to have someone to "baby".

But thank you to all of you for your help. I am going to try this stuff and see what happens.

And thank you for the welcome message! I will definitely stick around. It is nice to know that there is some place I can come and get advice and possibly offer some at some point!

I will definitely give all of this a shot. And if anyone knows whether the yeast has a flavor let me know if you think something might disguise it.

Thank you again!

Oh my i just posted this in another thread this morning not having read your post!

We are now doing just fine with around the neck collar.  But not so sure that is strong enough for your dog vs. mine.

People look @ me like I am crazy when I tell them; hey, it is chemical ... they just aren't eduated I guess.  I was making my dog sick and not knowing why.

I have 5 Chihuahuas, I cannot use the meds avail for fleas, I have too much trouble, one dog I almost lost from reacting...
I treat my yard, I bathe them all in Dawn Original Blue liquid dish soap, the fleas will die instantly, even vets reccomend...I use Brewer's yeast in dog food daily, after a month of Brewer's yeast it should be adequate into their system for repelling...
But, honestly, the yard is where it starts and thats the place that needs the chemical, its cheaper in the long run...
Welcome to the dog forum, keep us posted, hope all gets better for you...
