circling after seizure? HELP

my little guy(51,2yrs old) had very large lasting a long time early Saturday morning, unfortunately I wasn't  home when it started. I took him to the vets at 7am because he continued to seize. they put him in light weight coma for lack of a better word. He had a very rough time waking up from the drugs, and continues to have small seizures, now that the vet has left for the holiday I cant ask him about this circling he is doing, so far its been 46 minutes. I try and pick him up and he calms for a few then gets squirmy and so I've  put him back down but how long do you let this continue before its an emergency?

The circling, as long as he is only doing it AFTER a seizure, is normal post-ictal behavior in some dogs.  It should stop within 2 to 3 hours.  If it doesn't, or if he circles even if he hasn't had a seizure, then there may be something else neurological going on like an aneurism or a brain lesion of some type.

Has he had a complete blood panel done yet?  Performing a MRI on him would be the most certain way to determine what the problem is.

Please post back and let us know how he is doing.

Ghilly.

Forgot to add, until you can get him to help and meds, make sure he's in a secure area where he can't stumble into something and hurt himself.  Without meds, there really isn't anything else you can do. When it stops, he's going to be completely wiped out for several hours, meds or no meds.

He's seizing again.  Do you have an emergency vet you can contact?  If you call your regular vet, there should be an outgoing recording instructing you what to do in an emergency, and this qualifies.  Please let us know what happens!
