HE BELIVES LIVER..BUT WHAT COULD IT BE? SHE IS STILL ACTIVE BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT AN UNDERLYING PROBLEM JUST ISN'T BEING MASKED BY FLUSHING HER SYSTEM AND ANTIBIOTICS ETC. THE WORD CANCER HAS BEEN MENTIONED. IS THERE A PARTICULAR BLOOD TEST THAT WOULD SHOW RIGHT AWAY IF THAT IS WHAT THIS IS? ANY ADAVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE.  S.S.

I know the feeling we lost our 12 year old after she started having strokes her spirit will live on in our lives.  The pancreatis is a thing that a lot of pets get and for future pets please don't feed table scraps as dogs stomachs cannot handle fat the way we do.  I learned this hard way and about 400 dollars later our little minipin ate some roast beef and later she was almost comotose so in the vet we went and it was pancreatitis so for future DON'T FEED YOUR LOVING ANIMALS PEOPLE FOOD I know it is hard but you may not realize that you are doing it.  I am still thinking of my animals I have lost and know your pain so hope you the best

I am so sorry about Honey...I know the pain you are dealing with right now.  It is SO VERY HARD!  I put my Tiffy down in December and the pain I feel is still very raw.  Your words have touched my heart for the feelings are so similar.  As Aggieone said, stay here for support.  These "friends" on this site make the load a little lighter to bear.

Once again, my condolences.

I wish I could help you.  I want to so much.   I understand about the rain,  We have had a lot of torrential rains lately, and I think about the same things you do.  Sandy Grace hated storms and I know it is because she had to live on the streets before we rescued her, and she hated to get wet.  I wanted to cremate her and keep her ashes, but my husband wanted her buried in front of the swing we sit in.  She use to sit in front of us and lay her head on our knees and she would stay like that until she would almost go to sleep.  I would have to say in a long drawl,  "Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Dooooooooooown and take a nap, nap.  She always did, she was such a good listener.  I think about her getting wet or the ground above her getting wet, and I can't bear it.  My husband likes to think how much she loved being outside with us.

I had to vacuum everyday because she was a golden/yellow lab and they shed horribly living inside.  Now I long to find a Sandy Grace hair.  I completely understand  you keeping her bowl  and bed out, it is almost like they will show up to lay down or eat.  When does the paid stop, I don't think it ever will because they made such a huge place in our hearts.  I do think that we learn to go on and find relief in other things.  When does this happen, I do not know either.  If you are like me and it sounds like you are, you shared everything with Honey.  I talked to Sandy about everything.  I still talk to her.  Am I crazy, I don't think so, but maybe . . . . .I do know if it helps me to talk to her, I do.  I realized yesterday that Sandy Grace has been gone a little longer than a month, and it still hurts so bad, worse I think.  But Startin, I do laugh at certain things now and find a lot of peace on this site.   I still cry everyday, but I am not sobbing  as much now.  Hopefully, you will find some peace soon.  You will still miss her terribly for a long time.  Border collies are wonderful, their nature is so sweet, and they are very loyal.   When Sandy Grace died, our vet contacted Lab Rescue and told them about us.  I go on that sight everyday to find another Sandy, I will never find another one, but we are considering rescuing another lab in the future.  I am just not ready yet.  Maybe you could consider adopting another baby when you are ready.  I know you two were best friends and that makes the pain so much worse.   Does your family and friends understand your grief, if so they can be a strong support.  Actually, I have a very supportive circle of  family and friends, but they are beginning to  worry a great deal about me, they think I have lost it because I still talk to Sandy.  It makes me feel better!!!! so Girl, you do whatever it takes to make you feel better, if only for a moment.  Stay on this site with us,  the friends on this site understand, they feel your pain, and they want us to get better.  Aggieone

My eyes ache from trying not to cry for you as I am typing- I still puddle up from losing my favorite dog Max from cancerous tumor in his shoulder. It is that helpless feeling and not wanting them to suffer that tears you up. They are so dependent and childlike. That dog could feel your love and caring I am sure of it- people die of acute pancreatitis all the time - no one always has time to see it coming so please dont think you missed anything. The bloodwork said it all - when it is sudden though it is hard to adjust to. Cry your eyes out as it is your humanness showing. Take care- you did more than most people would do- your dog is not suffering as this is a terribly painful illness and difficult to medicate for pain as some of the medications cause more spasms of pain- you can cry for your own loss - it is allowed.

i was just re-reading your story about Sandy Grace.  You mentioned about how you relive those last moments every moment of everyday and most of the night.  I am doing the exact same thing.  I know that people keep saying "with time, it will get better" I don't know... all I know is that as of right now, it is not any better at all. I just keep thinking it is time for her to just come home any minute and that it has certainly been long enough. I know that Honey and I have some absolutely wonderful memories.  She loved to "go" with Mommy in the car. That was her absolute favorite thing was just to be with me wherever we were.  I can relate to your feelings so much.  She loved her on special place on the couch. I still have her dog bowls out on her table and I still have her dog bed out and that will not change.  I think that it comforts me to leave things just as they are. Honey is a blonde border collie if I hadn't mentoned that before.  s.s.

IT IS STORMING HERE RIGHT NOW AND HONEY HAS ALWAYS BEEN AFRAID OF STORMS.  I HAVE JUST BEEN CRYING SO HARD ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I JUST WISH SHE AND I WERE HERE TOGETHER.  MY STOMACH HAS A BUTTERFLY-UPSET STOMACH FEELING. I JUST FEEL SO SO SAD.  I HAD A ROUGH DAY TODAY AND IT SEEMS THAT TONIGHT IS WORSE. IF I THINK ABOUT IT I CAN HEAR THE TING TING OF HER COLLAR WHILE SHE WALKS AROUND. I FEEL SUCH LOSS. I AM NORMALLY A VERY HAPPY, POSITIVE PERSON, SO THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I HAVE NEVER KNOWN. I MISS MY BEST FRIEND SO VERY MUCH.  I APPRECIATE YOU LISTENING. IT IS NICE WHEN SOMEONE CAN RELATE. SOMETIMES THE FEELINGS ARE SO INTENSE THAT I JUST CANNOT SHAKE THEM. SHE IS THE ONE I COULD ALWAYS TURN TO. SHE WOULD ALWAYS GIVE ME A SMILE OR A KISS AND ALL WOULD BE WELL AGAIN. SHE ALWAYS MADE ME HAPPY. THANKS FOR LISTENING....I AM JUST HAVING A REALLY ROUGH TIME. S.S.

I am so very sorry that Honey had to leave you.  I actually do not know what to say.  I so feel your pain.  As you are aware my Sandy Grace died on February 6, and I am still so misreable without her.  My mom keeps saying, time heals and it does, but when?   I know eventually, the pain will calm for both of us.   I can tell by reading your posts that you loved her as much as we did Sandy.  Get involved with something, spend time with family and friends, don't spend a lot of time alone right now.  Stay on this site for the wonderful support.

I understand that you just want to touch her, see her.  When you are able, focus on the good times (I can say that, but right now, I am still focusing on the last six weeks of Sandy's life)   I have pictures of her and everytime I open my cell (she is my wallpaper)
I give her a great big kiss.  That seems to help me.  I find myself saying "Sandy Grace are you here, why can't I see you or touch you".  I reach over and rub the place on her loveseat  where she use to lay, and hope that she can feel me touching her.  I know this is a part of the grieving and healing process.  It is O.K. for you to cry and cry.  Hug her pictures, talk to her, whatever makes you feel better for the moment.  I wish I could give you a hug, and sit quietly with you as you grieve.

I firmly believe that our Lord has a place in heaven for his animals (our babies.)  When Honey left you and crossed the Rainbow Bridge, her suffering stopped.  She is playing with all of our babies that we have lost.

I can go on and on, but I know you have to go through this pain.  I am so, so sorry.  Stay with us so we can be here for you. Aggieone

I am so sorry for you.  :-(  I lost my first dog, Travis, to pancreatitis.  In hindsight, I wish he had died as quickly as your Honey did.  Pancreatitis is so extremely painful, and all you can do is treat the pain and nausea while basically starving the dog in order to rest the pancreas.

We had to watch and wait for 3 weeks before it was obvious that he was ready to go.  Like you, we had him in the top-of-the line, Cadillac of veterinary hospitals with 24/7 nursing and teams of specialists.  At least we know we did everything that could possibly be done, and that he was kept as comfortable as modern medicine allowed.

On a side note, I had needed to be on antidepressants for years, but always resisted talking to my doctor about it.  After losing Travis, I was a basket case and couldn't stop crying at inappropriate times - like all day at work.  Had I not loved that dog so much in his 13.5 years, and been so crushed by his loss, I would never have gotten the help I needed.  In truth, the end of his life was a new beginning in mine.  How grateful do you think I am that I rescued that mange-ridden mutt?  :-)

I know how hard it is to witness death whether it's in a human or a beloved pet.  Over the years, those moments have become just as precious to me as watching a birth.   Hard as it is to accept, sometimes death really is the right thing to happen, and at the right time.  Honey didn't have to suffer any longer and it sounds like she exited this world like a true lady.  God bless you for being such a wonderful, caring mommy for her.

IT BREAKS MY HEART TO SAY THAT HONEY PASSED AWAY MARCH 6TH AT 5:05 AM AT THE VET CLINIC IN COLUMBIA, MO.  THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST OF THE BEST BUT THEY UNFORTUNATELY COULD NOT SAVE MY HONEY. THEY FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS HER PANCREAS AND IT WAS AFFECTING HER LIVER AS WELL. WE ARE FROM BRANSON, MO AND MY VET SUGGESTED THAT WE TAKE HER TO COLUMBIA BECAUSE SHE BEGAN TO VOMIT AND THEY HAVE AN ULTRASOUND MACHINE THERE. WE ARRIVED IN COLUMBIA ON TUESDAY ABOUT 5PM AND THEY CHECKED HONEY. THEY ALLOWED US TO GO TO THE HOTEL ROOM TOGETHERTHAT NIGHT BECAUSE SHE APPEARED TO BE DOING OKAY.  SHE AND I TALKED AND SPENT TIME TOGETHER AND THEN SHE BEGAN TO VOMIT ABOUT 11PM.  THE HOSPITAL TOLD ME TO BRING HER BACK AND SHE BEGAN TO GET SICK ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL.  I PULLED OVER AND COMFORTED HER. THEY TOOK HER IN AND I HAD TO GO BACK TO THE HOTEL ROOM ALONE.  I HAVE NEVER FELT SO LONELY AND WORRIED. THE NEXT DAY WAS SUCH A HARD ONE. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS HER PANCREAS AND SOME DOGS COME OUT OF  IT JUST FINE AND THAT SHE COULD GO EITHER WAY. HER BLOOD PRESSURE BEGAN TO FALL TUES. 4AM AND WHILE I WAS AT HER SIDE SHE PASSED AT 5:05. THE PAIN IS SO EMMENSE. WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 12 YRS. I AM HAVING TROUBLE SLEEPING, EATING...MY HEART IS SO BROKEN.  THE TEARS JUST SEEM TO KEEP FALLING. I TELL MYSELF THAT SHE IS HERE WITH ME, BUT I LONG SO MUCH TO SEE HER, TO TOUCH HER. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOU EMAILS, PRAYERS, AND SUPPORT. I NEED THEM SO MUCH RIGHT NOW. I MISS HER SO MUCH.

How is Honey?  Is she home?  You must be very worried.  I know how you feel.  My vet thinks my dog has cancer in his elbow joint.  Was Honey on any medications, maybe for allergies or something?  My vet gave my dog, Bear, previcox, for pain.  He started leaking urine on his bed and drinking alot of water. I though he was just hot, because our house is very warm.  Then the urine started just running from him.  I asked the vet if it could be a side effect to the previcox but he didn't think, but he wanted to do blood work.  He gave me results over the phone and told me over all everything looked ok.  He said maybe Bear had a tumor pressing against his bladder.  He didn't offer me anything for the incontinence.
I decided to take him to a homeopathic vet.  I showed  the blood work, urine test and cytology reports to him and he couldn't believe how high his kidney tests were.  THE OTHER VET SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED OK!  The homeopathic vet showed me a chart with previcox on it and right there beside it was renal failure listed as a side effect.  He gave him some kind of shot right then and there for his kidneys and then gave me some drops to put in Bears mouth every day for the incontinence.  He also gave him a chiropractic adjustment, incase the incontinence was being caused by his spine being out of place.   Then he gave me some chinese herbs and some other kind of immune system builder to hopefully fix some underlying issues.
Have you hear of ESSIAC tea?  I am also giving this to Bear. You can find this at plantcures.com click on products clinically proven and then cancer and you will find it.  Although, it has been successful in fighting cancer it is good for so many things.  It is a great detoxifier.  I think it could really help you dog.  If you have any more questions about it let me know cause i have a book on it.  Good luck!

How is Honey?    I hope she is doing much better.   Sandy Grace lived about seven weeks after we found out she was in fourth stage renal failure, up until she started throwing up, there was no symptoms.  Sandy Grace was never in pain, just misreable from the vomiting.

I know how you feel, I look for Sandy every day, and realize she is no longer here.  I start to turn the heat way low in the evenings so she would not be hot during the night, and then I remember.  I still look at toys with her in mind.  I hope Honey is going to get better and spend years with you.  Please post back to let us know how she is.  Aggieone

renal kidney failure has never been mentioned. the liver seems to be the focus of all of the extremely high blood work. the alkline phosphatase is suppsed to be between 3-400 or so and with it being 5,271 that is off of the charts. my vet sayd that he has never seen numbers that high before.  i am hoping to pick her up today and whenever i do i will get a copy of her blood work before and after iv and i will get back with you.  she does have several of the symptoms you mentioned so i do belive that it is worth checking out.  i just want to make sure that we "know" what is going on as soon as we can. i appreciate you getting back with me. how long did Sandy Grace live after being diagnosed? Was she in any pain? Honey does not seem to be in any pain. I am really glad about that. It has been hard not having her here at home with me. especially since she always lays on the floor beside my bed every night.

It is me again.  My feeble brain forgot to ask, is your baby urinating frequently (more than normal) and can you smell urine on her, Sandy Grace never smelled like urine, but I know that in many cases some do smell like urine.    Does her breath have a foul oder?  Even tho a dog is in kidney failure, they will continue to urinate as it is their body trying to rid itself from the horrible toxins that comes with kidney failure.  Again, let us know.  Aggieone

The only thing I am an expert on is renal kidney failure.   I lost my baby Sandy Grace to renal kidney failure on February 6.    Is your Honey throwing up a lot, Is she constantly thirsty and drinking more water than normal?  What was her Creatine level?   Check with your vet to see what her Creatine level was before fluids, and after fluids.   Is she geting weak.  Is she refusing food or liquids?   If she is in early renal kidney failure, (for instance first stage)  she will or should react positively to the IV fluids.   I am sure one of the first things your vet looked at was her Creatine levels and that it is not kidney failure, but double check anyway.   I will hold you and Honey in my prayers, and please let us know more as soon as you can.  Aggieone
