Had to put my dog to sleep

My 12 year old minature poodle had to be put to sleep last Saturday.  She had health issues and then was attacked by a german shepherd.  She was doing fine from the bites, but the stress caused her health issues to become more significant and she stopped eating.  There really weren't any other choices and I am just devastated that I had to do this.  I miss her so terribly and hated that I had to make this horrible decision.  Any words of wisdom?  I miss her so and feel so guilty about doing this.  She was my world.

Thank you...it is just so hard right now...I miss her so much...I keep imagining her waiting for me all healed and playing around.  It is the only thing that helps me through this difficult time.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Our family pets mean the world to us personally. They have this uncanny way of keeping us healthy, loving and encouraging us to making everyday count. They are our inspiration for what lies ahead which should always be good. I believe they will be waiting for us at heaven's door wagging their tails just like they did here on earth. Maybe when the time is right you will consider having another dog to share your time with. Again, my heart goes out to you. Paula

Did you hear it? Wasn't that awesome? Can you believe this was a 12 year old kid! Someone had just sent that to me in an email so I thought I'd pass it along. I'm glad you liked it. Take care.

Wow!  That kid not only made me cry, but what a smart boy.  Wish there were millions more just like him. :-)

suzi - everything everyone else said is true.  In time, the guilt factor will go away and you will know in your soul you did right by your pup.  God bless.  :-)

Suzi, I hope they will let me share this one, but since it's about a 12 year old boy and his pet calf that he had to put down when it got hurt, I thought you could relate to it. It's so powerful. Would that we could all have this kind of faith and insight.  God bless.

A remarkable phone call from a 12-yr old boy to Houston radio station KSBJ FM 89.3. It blew the people at the station away. They felt it was so profound, the station has it posted on their website and its made its way to Youtube. Click below to listen to it. It's short.

I just lost my beloved dachshund earlier this month after a long battle with uncontrollable diabetes.  I understand how devastating it is to lose such a big part of your heart.  Time will help.  Give it a month or two then consider adopting or rescuing another little one in your poodle's memory.

My best to you

suzi, I'm so sorry about the loss of your dog. I know how hard that is. Please accept my condolences. I hope you feel better soon and will consider giving some fortunate pup a loving home when you're ready. I looked up this poem for you. I hope it helps in some small way. You're in my prayers. God bless.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
