Have to board a snappish dog

My dog, a Pomeranian-Chihuahua cross, can get growly when nervous.  The only time I've boarded her is with a breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels whose dogs were all around, and my dog was a jerk for the first few days she was there.  Didn't bite, but called lots of audibles and made threatening snappish barks.  She got used to it by the fifth day and the lady who ran the place didn't take it seriously, but it is a pretty nasty sound and I was appalled and also worried for her, it made her seem like a lunatic and she was obviously frightened.

Unfortunately, all the dog boarding places around are "family style," with the dogs romping together and sleeping on the couches and all.  I just don't see my dog being appropriate in such a situation.  We need to go out of town, and my husband booked a place for us to stay that is "not dog friendly."  He suggests taking her along and having her stay outside during the day and sleep in the car.  (She would actually tolerate this better than a boarding kennel run family style.)  I don't have anyone who can take her -- my mom is 80 and has said it is too much responsibility for her to watch any pet, and my sister (who likes my dog) is going to be out of town.  Can anyone think of anything to try?  We are even considering a kennel local to where we are staying, and going to get her every morning and returning her every night.  Any ideas would be welcome.

Yes, I would speak with the boarding kennel or try to find a pet friendly hotel.  You might consider a pet sitter that will come to your home.  Best if they are bonded.  Your Vet or pet store may have recommendations.
I do not really advise leaving her in the car fir a number of reasons.

My vet boards our cats, but even with a small dog like this, they don't.

What about your Vet clinic? Your VET has boarding facilities and they are not kept together...Everyone should have a separate kennel.....

I'm going to try the local place, and have a long talk with the owner first.  They are only two blocks from where I live and maybe could even meet her at home first.  Thanks for the suggestion to talk it over with them, I just was not sure they would even hear me out.  (They say all dogs should be "well socialized."  And she is, but can be so weird in boarding settings.)

Be honest with the boarding facilities, as I have worked with MANY, they can refer you to a place or put a sign up and take special precautions. I was bit by a chiweenie and a palmchi its OKAY they know it can happen, I dont know your states laws but being HONEST is the best bet!! if not can a friend watch them?
