Help ASAP!!

My 8 week old female chihuahua has been diagnosed with suspected bacterial meninjitis. I have only had her for 4 days and am extremely devestated. she is in a critical condition and is on antibiotics and fluid. She is very lethargic, vomits and cant walk. As she is soo small this is a concern. I was wondering has anyone had similar situations? How long would it take for the antibiotics to work or is it too late? Does anyone know how pups get this and how long she could of had it in her system for? Praying soooo much she makes it for me and my 2 little children. Im hoping for a miricle. The vet has said thats what it will take to pull her out of this.

There are a several causes for meningitis, including viral infections, bacterial infections, fungal infections and parasites. The two viral diseases in dogs that are known to cause meningitis are distemper and parvovirus, with distemper being much more likely to be the culprit in viral meningitis.  Bacterial infections that can lead to meningitis include staphylococcal infections, pasteurellosis and sometimes other bacteria. It takes being on antibiotics for a good while to fight the infection. It is hard for the antibiotics to pass the blood-brain barrier. And with meningitis being in the spinal area it makes it harder to treat.I will keep you in my prayers.May God Bless You.Please let us know how she is doing.
